BINGE BOOKS WITH BOOKFLIX!
Binge Books with BookFlix!!
By Kessler McClanahan, Doerre Intermediate
When the Humanities PLC for 7th Grade decided to have our students participate in book clubs this quarter we wanted an interactive, immersive way for our students to explore the titles we chose. We knew we wouldnāt be there to get the students excited about the titles in person and needed a way to hook their attention.
I first found BookFlix through Doerreās Digital Learning Specialist, Tiffany Payne. She shared the idea from Massachusetts Childrensā Book Award in our monthly digital Tech News newsletter. BookFlix is a template created through Google Slides and is formatted to look like Netflix. Students can click the images on the āHomeā screen like Netflix that will take them to that titleās page. The page includes a summary, recommendation, book trailer, and access to the online version of the book. Once students explore these options, they will choose their top three books. As teachers, we will decide who should read which book based on student interest and reading level. Hopefully next year we can take student input from this year to make it even more engaging for future students.
