We Continue to Grow
Please join me in welcoming Miguel Hernandez to our staff! Miguel is here to teach Spanish in grades 5 - 8. He moved into his classroom last week, and is in full swing today. I know we are all happy to have him join the AMS Team! Our Language Team is now complete-thanks to everyone who helped out during this vacancy.
Through our partnership with Theater Aspen, we will also be able to add a choir class for students beginning 2nd quarter. This class will be one of the choices in the visual and performing arts areas that students may select. Students will be able to sign-up in the office later this week. Please welcome Teacher James Early to our school team. James is originally from Montana where he studied and toured with the Missoula Children's Theatre for five years. He taught theater and music during that time and grew up singing in choir throughout school, college and after graduation. Music and Theatre work hand in hand in helping develop confidence and performance skills. His view on choir comes from creating a safe, explorative space for students to fall in love with the arts and grow outside of their own expectations.
Our school team has grown tremendously this year, to offer an even more complete middle school program experience. Our new and returning teachers are working hard every day to make sure students are experiencing high quality instruction each and every day. We are working to align our practices with Colorado state standards as well as the International Baccalaureate framework.
Spoken Word Poetry with Aspen Words
Please ask your kids about their experience with poetry this week. We have had the pleasure of welcoming 3 amazing Spoken Word Poets to our Language Arts classes for the last two weeks. We will showcase our student and guest artist talent on Thursday evening at 6:00pm / Black Box Theater. Hope to see you there!
AMS SPORTS

Fall Sports surveys were emailed to all athletes and families last week. Please share your feedback as we complete another great season of Volleyball, Cross Country and Football this week. Your insights will help our programs grow in the future. It has been so much fun to watch our student athletes learn and grow this season. Contact Athletic Director Mel Thulin if you missed the email.
AMS students must purchase a ticket and have supervision at AHS sporting events. Please join in the fun with your children at Homecoming this week!
