Health & Wellness

Hello D6 Staff!
Welcome back! I hope everyone was able to find time to rest and relax over break. Hopefully you all are feeling rested and reenergized for this new year! With the holidays and cold weather, brings more people together indoors. Please remember that COVID-19 numbers are at their highest since the start of this pandemic and it is even more important that we protect ourselves.
Sensory Room
Did your building previously have a sensory room? Do you wish you still had this room?
Well now you can set your sensory rooms up and begin using them again (space permitting). COVID-19 mitigations need to be followed.
- Items in the room should be cleaned between students.
- Disinfectant for fabric and porous items can be obtained from your building nurse.
- All other mitigations for the school building apply to the sensory room as well.
Omicron Variant
Omicron variant is quickly spreading throughout the US and is now the dominant variant. Delta currently accounts for 41% of all cases in the US. Here is some information on this new variant:
- The BinaxNow rapid tests we use in the district can detect the Omicron variant.
- The Omicron variant spreads more easily than all other variants, but is less deadly. Delta variant causes more severe illness than all other variants.
- Vaccinated persons who are 6+ months from second dose (2+ for J&J vaccine), immunity is only at 35% to the Omicron variant. With the booster, that number increases to 75%.
- Vaccines continue to prove that they can prevent severe illness and/or death, in most people, even with the Omicron variant.
Guidance Update
The IDPH announced that they adopted the shortened quarantine time for the general public but NOT for school settings.
We will continue following the 10 day quarantine time until IDPH updates their school guidance to reflect the 5 day quarantine time.
At this time, the CDC has not changed their definition fo fully vaccinated. Anyone with 2 doses of the vaccine (1 dose for J&J) is considered fully vaccinated and should continue to follow the district's guidance for fully vaccinated staff.
