A Message From the Office
Calling all materials and manipulatives! If you have any math manipulatives or materials at home to return to the school, please send them with your in-person students or drop them off in the office for VLA students.
In the past we've offered an opportunity for parents to share their input for student placement for the following year. The purpose of this is to describe the environment or characteristics of a teacher that support your child's learning and not to specifically request a teacher. If you are interested in completing a grouping card, please use this link. Administration are the only ones who view this and will take all requests into consideration. https://forms.gle/cMaPeBrJNuTFyMj97
Our 5th grade students will have a promotion ceremony on May 27th, but it will look different. In-person students will have an in-person promotion which will be livestreamed as parents will not be able to attend in person. Virtual students will have a parade where they can receive their promotion certificate and swag. More information was sent via Seesaw to 5th grade parents today, Friday, May 7th.
Mark your calendars for some upcoming music opportunities. Ms. Randolph will be communicating with grade level families to let you know about an in-person outdoor Family Folk Dance Night for 4th grade students.
COVID-19 Positive Cases (Isolation) and Close Contacts (Quarantine)
Someone who tests positive needs to isolate for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms or a positive test (whichever comes first).
If someone is identified as a close contact, that means they've been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and must quarantine for 14 days after date of exposure. A close contact is identified as someone who is within 6ft masked or unmasked for a cumulative time of 15 minutes or more. Our in-person guidance allows students to be 3 feet apart from peers while wearing a mask. However, when contact tracing, we still follow the guidelines of 6ft as we identify close contacts. You will be contacted by the office if your child is identified as a close contact and notified when they will be able to return to school.
Any student who is out for an extended period of time is able to Zoom with their teacher from 8:00am-8:20am to get information on assignments, updates, etc. Your child's teacher should be in contact with you during this time.
For more information, please contact the office or go to the COVID-19 tab on the district website. https://www.sd129.org/covid-19/case-monitoring
Some items to look for include:
- Books checked out from the LMC
- Books from your classroom library or novel study
- Math manipulatives
These items should be returned by the end of the school year to the office or your child's teacher.
Student Technology Devices
All student devices will be kept at home during the summer of 2021 and students at all levels should bring their devices to the building they are attending in the fall.

Students who are leaving the district must return their devices/chargers on the student’s last day or the last day of the school year

Current 3rd graders will keep their iPads and bring them to school in the fall and they will be swapped out for a touchscreen Chromebook during the first days of school
Current 4th graders will keep their current Chromebook and use it for 5th grade
Current 5th graders will keep their current Chromebook and bring it to middle school in the fall and it will be swapped out during the first days of school
School Safety
Throughout the school year, all students within District 129 actively take part in various school safety procedures such as evacuation, severe weather, and lockdown drills.
Due to COVID protocols and maintaining social distancing, many of the school safety drills have been practiced on an individual class basis rather than schoolwide. Classrooms have been able to watch a video detailing safety procedures, have dialogue about the processes, and participate in a walkthrough as applicable to the specific drill protocol.
This week, students participated in a lockdown drill within the building. In preparation for the drill, classrooms discuss how to be prepared for an event where the need to lockdown or evacuate the building may occur. During the lockdown drill, classrooms ensure that they are safe and secure. Building administration facilitated the drill with Kevin Triplett, District 129 School Safety Officer, and Freeman’s school liaison from the Aurora Police Department who were also onsite to observe during the drill.
Providing a safe and secure environment for students and staff has always been the number one priority of School District 129. Detailed safety plans for all types of school emergencies have been carefully planned and frequently practiced with staff and students throughout the school year. Since emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time, School District 129 has also focused on supporting students and families while at home as well. This has been apart of the Stay Safe @ Home 129 initiative.
Stay Safe @ Home Videoes: Tornado Safety, Fire Safety, Mask Wearing, Bicycle Safety
