Spotlight on Learning
Since opening in the 2014-2015 school year, Prestwick has wanted to incorporate broadcasting into the learning day. Prestwick STEM had this dream turn into a reality this week in Mr. Castillo's second period Technology Applications class. Facilitated by Mr. Castillo and led by two 8th graders, Carlina Ortiz and Vivian Stevens, as the broadcasters, our PSA video announcements kicked off!
Change causes adaptability and persistence to kick in, and Prestwick is up for the challenge! As the system is ironed out, there will be "live" audiences from different classes and "guest" broadcasters to encourage growing in this way to present material. The program will eventually be a fully student led production.
Student learning will be showcased during "special" broadcasts. A perfect example is during this week K-1 was learning the xylophone in Mr. Aguirre's music class! Seeing them focused and working all together to create an organized sound would be a unique story to share.
On a similar note, Mrs. Saldanha's art class had several groups displayed their paper creations and an art gallery could be announced open to the public!
Showcasing learning in a different perspectives might just open the door to have us all look at it in a new light. From our youngest learners to our oldest, this new announcement system can support learning for all.

Prestwick Celebrates Distinctions Earned from Texas Education Agency
Our distinctions earned include:
Top 25% Closing Performance Gaps- A measure that assures that all learners are making academic progress.
Academic Achievement in Science - A measure that looks at our campus and 40 comparison schools of similar make up and recognizes the quartile based on student success on STAAR.
We are proud that on this one measure our learners demonstrated all they know in grand fashion. Thank you for your ongoing support of all that we do. Our commitment is that we will continue to strive to be a place where students love to learn, teachers love to teach and our community is proud to call their "school home."
