SUPERINTENDENT'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ORION

The Superintendent's Advisory Council has completed its work. Our Superintendent, Dr. Baker, reviewed the ideas from the council along with ideas from the broader community and developed his recommendations for "right sizing" our district. These ideas will be presented to the School Board at a public meeting on November 14th. There will be time for comments from both the Board members and the community. After this meeting, the Superintendent will put forth his final recommendations for a Board Vote on November 28th. This will again be a Public Meeting in which the community will be given time to speak.

This link http://redwoodcity.agendaonline.net/public/ enables you to view the recommendations our Superintendent, Dr. Baker, will be presenting to our School Board on November 14th. There are many recommendations that will affect our entire district. Specifically, the Superintendent is recommending closing 3 schools and consolidating 2 other schools. Orion is one of the schools recommended to be consolidated.

The Superintendent's recommendation for Orion calls for our Orion Parent Participation program to move to the John Gill Campus. We will be sharing the site with the Mandarin Immersion Program currently housed on the Gill campus.

Dr.Baker outlined the implementation details for the Orion Consolidation:

**The campus currently housing Orion's Parent Participation Program, 815 Allerton Street, will be repurposed in the future in a manner yet to be determined.

**John Gill Elementary School will no longer exist as a neighborhood school.

**The Mandarin Immersion program will continue on the current John Gill campus.

**Existing John Gill students will be invited to join the Orion community, or will have the option of requesting choice to another program.

A TIME OF THANKS

Fall brings a time of reflection and a time of gratitude. While lately I awake every morning to news of many destructive forces impacting our nation and our state, I find comfort in all the positive forces at work in our corner of the world. Compassion showing itself in the selfless actions of strangers protecting one another and bringing aide to one another.

And the compassion, warmth and grace generated by the caring relationships in our wonderful Orion community bring much joy to me every day. I am immensely grateful for being given the opportunity to be part of this magical community.

I wish you all a Thanksgiving holiday filled with relaxation, joy, family friends and love. We have so much to be thankful for in our special community! Thank you all for everything you do to make Orion shine and for sharing your spectacular Orion stars with us!

With deep gratitude,

Principal Julie
