Flex Your Parent Power!

PREPARATION, MOTIVATION AND EXCELLENT EDUCATION: THE DMS WAY

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello parents and welcome back!

2nd semester has started off quite lovely and productive at DMS. Students and teachers alike are getting re-acclimated with schedules and academics, and us educators are getting re-acclimated to having NO sleep (Christmas holidays are the happiest, most cruelest days of the year), but here we are, and are we READY? You bet!

Ready, steady for Georgia Milestones that is. Georgia Milestones is the new assessment adopted by the State of Georgia this year. Gone are the days of CRCT, this type of standardized testing aims to assess our students in a completely different way, by presenting both multiple choice questions AND open answer questions, prompting students to utilize critical thinking, decision-making as well as written skills. Quite the daunting task, but we're up for the challenge!

Wanna know how you can help? DMS will do our very best to equip you with the essential tools to help your child be successful come April. We will be hosting academically-themed PTO nights for the next couple of months (check out info on our very first "Math Night" listed below), as well as once again provide our successful "Saturday Schools" for reinforcements, Parent Academies for more tool assessments and straight talk answers, as well as a GA Milestone Assessment training EVERY month until April. I hope to see you all!

The new year also brings some "new" parental activities as well, as I of course, believe in equal work and play. Look out for more information on our 2nd annual "Parent Present Project" (slightly delayed but just as meaningful anytime of the year) as well as our Black History Program. Also, if you're still trying to find a New Year's resolution, resolve to become a parent volunteer this year by becoming a member of the Parent Action Team. I promise, it's worth it.

And speaking of you guys (parents I mean), I want to dedicate my picture this month (and make sure you check them out again below) to my past Parents of the Month. I cannot express to you all how grateful and thankful I am to have your support and spirit of volunteerism for the sake of not only your child, but for ALL children here at Dublin Middle School. Superheroes indeed you are.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
