July Explore - Seated Sessions Underway
The July Explore session has provided us with the opportunity to have the familiar sounds of children back in our buildings! Thank you to those of you who are hosting Explore in your schools for your support in helping our Explore principals to have a successful start to the session. While seated attendance is down from previous years, this process has allowed us to work through the challenges of new safety protocols as we prepare for seated learning options in the fall.
New Principal Retreat
We are looking forward to spending some time with our new principals this week as we spend some time digging into what it means to be an elementary school in our district. We will explore the work that has been taking place recently within our system, including a deep dive into our development of PBIS structures in each building and our plans to implement Tier 1 supports in the fall. We will also introduce our new principals to department leaders from across the system that they will be working with throughout the year, giving them a chance to put a face with the name and hear a little about how each department supports learning in our schools.
Upcoming Dates
July 15 - New Principal Retreat @ Bentley
Aug 4 - Lead, Learn, Succeed @ Kickapoo (Kickoff for all leaders in district)
Aug 5 - Elem Principal Kick-Off @ TBD
Aug. 11-14 - Induction Days (New certified staff) - Can trade out Aug. 11 for July 28 or 29
Aug 17-21 - Activate SPS (Asynchronous PD sessions for all certified staff)
August 24 - First Day of School
Re-entry Update
As a reminder and follow-up, we currently have four re-entry work teams, made up of district representatives, that are meeting throughout the month of July to assess current data, review parent and teacher feedback, and finalize plans for the school year. These work teams include the following areas:
- Health, Safety, SEL supports, and Operations
- Learning Development and Support
- Communications and Partnerships
- Equity and Access
We anticipate that we will be ready to announce those plans and protocols no later than the end of July, giving us time to actualize before school begins on August 24. These plans will align with the latest guidelines provided by the CDC, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, Mercy representatives, and Cox representatives. At this time, you do not need to be drafting anything at the site level for reentry.
For your awareness, a general overview of the re-entry plan will be shared with the Board of Education this Tuesday (July 14) at their combined meeting (they only meet once this month). The plan that you will receive will be more granular.
