Dragon Roar: 10.27.19 Week 11
Daring Greatly in Faith, Academics & Service since 1960
This is Halloween!
Go, Dragons!!
Wow. Thank you all for a great turnout and so much joy today at the 5K!! Our superintendent LOVED the band, our Shrek themed booth and seeing so many SMCS families there. Thank you for helping us build our community and for our strong representation today.
Today's Gospel
In today's gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the proud Pharisee who prayed from his self-importance and the tax collector who prayed humbly.
“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.’
“But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’"
Lk 18:9-14
Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Family Connection
"In contrasting the prayer of the Pharisee with the prayer of the tax collector, Jesus teaches his disciples to pray in humility before God. Yet, in this parable, Jesus offers the humility of the tax collector as a model for the prayer of a disciple. The parable reminds us that when we pray, we must remember our need for God in our lives. If we are too full of ourselves, there is too little room for God's grace to work in us." (Citation) How do we work together to SHOW rather TELL about our lives as Christians?
