All County Orchestra
It is a great honor to be in All County Orchestra. There were eight middle schools in Anderson County that auditioned for All County on Tuesday, September 18th. Of the 46 students chosen, Southwood had 26 students who made it into the orchestra. Congratulations to all of the students who auditioned and to the students who made it listed below!
Faculty Focus: Mrs. Rogers
To say that Mrs. Rogers has had an eventful two years would be putting it mildly. Mrs. Rogers, the 7th grade, 8th grade, and high school theatre teacher at Southwood Academy says she is “recovering well from cancer and feels good." Her theatre students have been working on Shel Silverstein monologues. The 8th grade students selected a script for their 8th grade production, which is going to be revealed soon. Enjoy some photos from her 8th grade students playing with props.
Willy Wonka Update
Willy Wonka rehearsals are going very well. "There's a lot of fun and singing,” says Israel, who plays Augustus Gloop. Faith, who plays the Candy Man says, “we’re just learning music," and having her friends with her "makes it fun to do."
According to Mr. Kennedy, the director, the audience can expect fun, vibrant colors, quirkiness, and great music from a live orchestra. He also adds that the Willy Wonka cast is full of talent. The students are practicing hard, and it is going to be a great show!
Mr. Powell's Good Stuff
Mr. Powell continues Good Stuff during Morning Meeting. He started it last year because, “We are bombarded with negativity through media constantly. If we only see the bad things around us, we will believe that there is only bad in the world." Good stuff allows students to focus on the good things that happen here at Southwood and encourage a positive mindset. Mr. Powell’s goal for Morning Meeting is to “create a positive, family-like culture at Southwood Academy.“ Mr. Powell promotes this with a Self Check that asks students to be more truthful, to be fair and helpful, to encourage others and create better friendships.

In-coming 7th Grade Students Must Have T-DAP Vaccines
Students must get the T-DAP immunization BEFORE they begin the 7th grade! If the office has not received immunization documentation by the first day of school, students will not be able to start school. Please schedule an appointment early; the health department is only providing immunizations a few days a month.
After your student receives the immunization, please get the SC Department of Immunization record and turn it in to Robin Rosa as soon as possible. For more information, please email the Southwood Academy school nurse, Robin Rosa. The parent letter from SC DHEC is below.
