PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear FSA Community,
I hope that everyone enjoyed their weekend!
Congratulations to Charlie Furniss and Mrs. Duzyol for their STAR student and STAR teacher recognition by Atlanta Rotary! Well deserved!
I'd like to welcome our new Safety Officer, Mr Rick Evans! Mr Evans has many years of police experience and is excited to work in a school where he can impact students and families! Make sure to give him a warm FSA welcome! Be sure to read his bio below! We are so excited to have him join our FSA family!
"Greetings. My name is Frederick Evans, and I am the new Safety Officer at Fulton Science Academy. It is a pleasure to be here, and I look forward to working with everyone.
Allow me to tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I later attended attended Fayette County High School, in Fayetteville, Georgia, where I graduated in 1982. I joined the U.S. Air Force in 1984, where I became a dental hygienist, and I was also cross trained as a field combat medic. I served a four year tour, most of which was served overseas.
My family has a long law enforcement history, so naturally I had an interest in law enforcement. After leaving the Air Force, I began my law enforcement career. I have a wide variety of experience spanning a twenty-one year period. I have worked as a patrol officer, a jail officer, a detective, and I have served in law enforcement supervision and management roles as well. I have had thousands of hours of training, and maintain a law enforcement certification. I am also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute, located in Louisville, Kentucky.
I am married with five children, and my wife and I currently serve in the Georgia Guard. I am also an ordained minister, and currently I am working towards my masters degree in ministry.
Again, I am pleased to be here with you all, and I look forward to working with you to provide a safe environment for each of your children. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns."

FSA 2nd Session for St. Jude Fundraising
NHS & NJHS Induction Ceremony
We were lucky to have as the speaker for the ceremony Mr. Ian Evens, who is the owner and head instructor of Cumming Martial Arts. He is also the founder of the art of Yondo Jiu-Jitsu. He has worked closely with students in various leadership position a in school and out. His presentation was on the 4 p to success and he challenged students to raise their game always trying to do better. Shihan Evans has consistently turned out not just black belts to the rank of Shodan, but also participants in various college honors programs, presidential scholar candidates for universities in and out of the state of Georgia. His students excel academically and within the school environment, competitively involved in school athletic teams ranging from baseball to wrestling, musical theatre and such groups such as DECA. His martial arts students also compete with outstanding results in regional, national and international competitions. He leads by example and requires his students to be passionate, to fail, to be able to get back up more determined than before and to find their niche. Cumming Martial Arts was recently named Best of Forsyth 2020, for Martial Arts.
The ceremony was a success and FSA is proud of our brilliant students. Congratulations to the new members!!
Crayola Color Cycle
Our school is participating in a program called Crayola ColorCycle. This program was created to teach students the importance of recycling and saving the environment. Globally, most waste is currently disposed of in some form of a landfill. 37% of waste is disposed of in some form of a landfill, 8 percent of which is disposed of in sanitary landfills with landfill gas collection systems. 17% of air pollution is from waste burning, and Crayola used to burn the plastic increasing air pollution. So now instead of burning the old products, in this program Crayola collects donations of markers from any brand from schools all over the country and recycles them to make new products. So find any used or dried product with or without a cap and drop it off in the bin in the front lobby.

Mostly students work in the Thrift Shop, but sometimes (Holidays/Summer) we put Food Pantry days on the calendar for students.
Weekdays, enter through the Main Office door and ask for Darlene at the lobby intake desk. Weekends (Saturday/ Sunday), enter through the front Thrift Store doors and let the Security Guard know that you are on the student volunteer list. Show your email confirmation and put on a name tag.
This waiver signed by your parents, if you are under 18. Bring your phone, but don’t bring other items if you can help it. We have some lockers, but no backpacks are allowed.
Wear modest comfortable clothes that can get dirty and allow you to bend over. No short shorts or spaghetti straps. No flip-flops or sandals. Wear closed-toed shoes like sneakers.
Maybe. We have limited student spots. Please email us and get permission FIRST. They may be turned away at the door if they are not on our list of approved volunteers for the day. Groups are scheduled differently. We require 1 adult to every 4 students if coming in a group and you must submit a group request online. We only allow high school student groups. No one under 13 may volunteer at any time.
High school student groups need to be chaperoned with 1 adult, per 4 students, and a max of 10 people total. We do not allow middle school groups. This has changed from our past policy.
You must stay at least two hours. If you want to stay longer than your shift, just ask when you arrive. Most of the time, it is fine.
Yes! We have free snacks and drinks in our breakroom and we have a soda machine. We ask that you stay in your work area otherwise.
For an official letter confirming student volunteer dates and times, please email us following the completion of scheduled hours. If only a signature is needed on a form you bring, just ask a site manager to do so while you are here.

Pennies for Patients
Dear FSA Families,
Our Elementary Student Council members will be leading our school in efforts to raise money for Pennies for Patients, a member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Our school has decided to take on blood cancer and our mission is to help raise money to find a cure. Be on the lookout for more information in the upcoming weeks that will allow your child to participate in this rewarding event that emphasizes the importance of social and emotional learning and gaining the experience of helping both children and adults in their fight against blood cancer.
We will kick off our fundraising efforts on Wednesday March 4th. On this day, your students are encouraged to donate $1.00 to dress as their HERO! This small donation will help to start our fundraising efforts and give our students an opportunity to recognize a hero of their own as we work towards becoming heroes together throughout this fundraiser!
What you need to know:
- Who? All FSA students are participating!
- What? Students will be coming home on Friday, February 28th with their own collection box and information about Pennies for Patients. Students should raise as much money as possible in their boxes OR online with our school donation website
- When? This fundraiser will continue from Wednesday March 4th to Friday, March 20th
FSA Senior Beta Club is Putting Together Military Care Packages & Hosting an Art Night to Make Cards for Members
The Military Care Package (MCP) Drive is a project returning from last year, in which the HS Beta Club collects toiletries, food, and other donations to support the US military. As a fun, more personal activity, Art Night gives students the opportunity to write or draw 'thank you' cards and artwork for our troops, which will be sent in with the rest of the drive. The MCP Drive runs through March 12 and donation boxes can be found in the lobby by the stairs. In the mornings (7:30-8:00), HS Beta members will present at the donation table, though donations at any other time are welcome. Art Night is planned to take place in the cafeteria on March 5 from 4:10-6:00. Though Art Night is marketed towards elementary-age students, the teacher volunteer- and HS Beta-supervised event is open to older students and family members. In terms of other events, HS Beta completes a number of drives and community projects each year, though our primary recurring events are the Rivers Alive Cleanup, Art Night, and the MCP Drive.
