Chancellor News and Notes
September 17-21, 2018
Already to Open House this week! Wow!
Can you believe we have already been in school over a month?! Time is flying! Before you know it, we will be at Thanksgiving Break (9 Mondays away for those Type-A counters out there)! And some of us are now realizing, the honeymoon is over with our struggling students, as we get into heavier content, and office referrals and Behavior Intervention Reports are being written on a daily basis for some students. Frustration levels are rising in students who are behind academically, and our support systems will have to keep up to work on some of those types of behaviors that are exhibiting themselves (particularly during independent work times).
So what to do???
What we know works in many situations:
- ALOT of positive reinforcement and ALOT of love
- Modeling expected behaviors ALOT and have patience (small steps, small victories)
- One-on-one conferencing with student (build the relationship and find out what you can)
- Involving a counselor to help
- Make a plan with the student and set goals and checkpoints
- Build a relationship with parent, which can provide lots of information sometimes
- Scaffold and support learning (frustration and defeat is often the reason for the behavior)
- Yes, they need so much more than some students, but isn't that why we are here? To help ALL students grow and learn? Our job is impossible sometimes it seems, but every student has a gift, even when you don't know what it is yet!
Reminders!
- Content and language objectives posted in every classroom

This week's Comet of the Week nomination goes to:
Vicki Onukwugha Banks for the next Comet of the Week!
Ms. Banks works with our Reach 2/3 students in second grade, amongst many other job duties!
Candase Carr nominated Ms. Banks for the following reasons:
"Ms. Banks is a hardworking, caring, and selfless teammate! She helps wherever she can whenever she can. Her work starts before most of the staff arrives on campus and ends after some of us leave! She cares about her students and goes over and beyond the call of duty; and never complains! She is a great teammate and wonderful asset to our Chancellor staff!"
Thank you Ms. Banks for all you do here at Chancellor. Ms. Banks will earn a snack shack coupon, a jeans pass, her name on the Comet of the Week board, and the chance to nominate next week's Comet of the Week. Congratulations!
