ID Requirement for All Lotus Students
Q&A
What if a student has not received his/her ID?
Please complete the ID support form.
Do students have to wear their ID on a school-issued lanyard?
Yes, we ask that all IDs be worn on a Lotus-issued lanyard for dress code purposes. The student around their neck must wear the ID to be visible during the school day, 8 a.m. - 3:20 p.m.
Can student IDs be kept in the student's locker, pocket, folder, wallet, or purse?
No, the student must have their ID on a lanyard around their neck.
Why are we implementing IDs now?
ID's support students with:
1. Safety. A student with an ID becomes immediately identifiable in real-time by any team member (substitute, support staff, supporting admin, etc.). This is especially important during emergencies or safety-related events involving those who may not normally interact with the student to coordinate support.
2. Any intruders will be easily recognized as NOT having a school-issued ID. Hallway scans can streamline the immediate identification of someone present not affiliated with Lotus.
3. The barcode is compatible with the cafeteria and will allow immediate checkout by scanning the barcode.
4. The barcode is compatible with LobbyGuard and will allow students to check in or out late or early, and will support Juniors and Seniors with check-in and checkout for off-campus lunch.
Will students receive consequences for not having an ID?
The discipline ladder includes three steps for students not wearing IDs on their person!
1) Verbal reminder is given, and the student's name is recorded.
2) Student's parent/guardian is contacted regarding lack of compliance.
3) Consequences issued, including detention, Saturday school, etc.
What if a student loses his/her ID?
There will be a $5 replacement fee for IDs after students have received their 1st ID and misplaced it. This fee will be paid to the front office, where a new ID will be printed and given directly to the student.
Who is the contact for ID questions?
Please complete the ID support form (attached), as a team of staff is working together to manage this new process. The support form is monitored daily - please have patience as we work through the development/roll-out phase. Please do not directly report to the main office or Mr. Watson's office with questions.
Lotus' Stance on Cyber-Bullying!
Please read the attached letter, which addresses Lotus' stance on recent accounts created using our school name and logo. While these accounts look like they are school accounts, they are not. Lotus is not affiliated and does not approve of these fake accounts or their malicious content. We stand together, united against bullying in any form, including cyberbullying, via social media platforms, text messages, email, etc.
Students who are found to be involved in creating, liking, or sharing social media pages, text messages, emails, or any other digital material devoted to harassing and bullying others will be subject to strict consequences. If you, or someone you know, has information regarding the source of these postings, you can report your concerns anonymously using Safe2Tell.org. This website does not require you to share your name but will allow you to communicate directly with the school administration to ensure the pages are removed.
Thank you in advance for having the courage to share any information you may have that will help us keep everyone safe! We are Lotus, and we are strong!
Dress Code Reminder
CLDE Update
The department of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education at Lotus is currently preparing students for the annual ACCESS test. All multilingual learners will take this assessment in January when we return from Winter Break. We must work as a team to ensure students are ready to do their best on each test.
We will practice strategies to help students demonstrate their understanding of the English language in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Parents and guardians can ensure students get rest each night and eat breakfast in the morning. If breakfast is not convenient in the morning, it is served daily in the cafeteria. Your child can arrive just 10 minutes early to receive breakfast at school.
Testing will occur throughout the month between January 10 and February 13. Test results will be available in May. As soon as the school receives the score reports, they will be sent home with students. Thank you for teaming up with us for the success of your children.

Lotus first opened its doors in August 2006 with a total of 147 students in grades 6 and 7. Each year after that, its enrollment increased gradually to finally reach over 900 students, with grades spanning from Kindergarten to 12th. In such a diverse and disadvantaged community, for over a decade, Lotus has managed to instill interest in students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Today it is one of the most successful schools in Aurora.
