Himlie Hello

August 21 Update

We're Ready to See You!

Dunn families,

Our teachers and staff have been working long and hard to get ready to welcome back our Dolphins to a new school year.

Next week is a big one, so I'd like to make sure that you have the details you need to plan. You should have all heard from your children's teachers. Moving forward, they are certainly the experts to go to with questions about lessons or their schedules. But please continue to reach out to me with your questions or concerns as we move forward.

I spoke often with our staff this week about patience and grace. While we have worked very hard to prepare for our students to come back to us, we are relying on technology to do that as we get started. It may glitch, the internet may not work, or the application a teacher planned to use may not work right at that time. I have reminded our teachers that our supportive community of students and their families know how wonderful they are in the classroom. Please remind your children that they are not expected to be experts at remote learning and to have patience with themselves.

We will partner to develop the best ways to stay engaged, stay connected, and maintain the focus of inquiry as we provide our IB learners with a new opportunity to learn.

Dunn pride,

Abby Himlie

Dunn Parent Information Presentation from Administrators

Erica Simpson, our amazing Assistant Principal, and I will be providing an information meeting on Tuesday evening at 5pm. We hope to answer building-wide systems questions, so that when you attend your teachers' Parent Information Night, you can focus on what they do in their classrooms. Expect an email with directions to join the presentation virtually.

How Will My Child Start Wednesday Morning?

Your child's laptop has a sticker with their PSD login and password. If you do not pick up a laptop, there will also be a card or sheet from the teacher with this information included in the supplies you pick up.

Any program that your child will need to access will use this PSD login and password.

Your child's teacher has provided directions on how to get into their Google Classroom (think of this as the board on the wall that shows the work they are doing) where there is a link to join the live Google Meet (think of this as the door that opens to enter the classroom and see your classmates and teacher.

The teacher will take it from there!

Gifted and Talented at Dunn

We have gotten some questions about GT services at Dunn. As you have heard, budget cuts across the state and our district caused Dunn to make decisions in the spring that impacted staffing. Additional explanation on what changes will be with our gifted and talented services can be found HERE.

It's a GREAT time to join Dunn's PTO!

  • Any interested parents or caregivers can email us at dunnelementarypto@gmail.com
  • We are a small group and have small intimate meetings (typically less than 10 people). Currently virtual meetings, of course!
  • We primarily do dreaming, planning, connecting, monitoring event budgets, and approving teacher mini-grants.
  • If someone is organized, passionate, and willing to make agendas, send emails, and keep apprised of Dunn happenings, any open position on the PTO Board would be a good fit for them. Currently seeking Co-treasurer, VP, President.
