Notre Dame Catholic Primary School
Foundations for Life Long Learning 13 February
Dear Parents and Staff
What a big day and night we have ahead of us tomorrow. Our day commences with our 10 Year Celebration Mass (Years 1-6) commencing at 8.45am and we invite all parents to join us to celebrate both this special occasion and the start of another school year. While most of us are attending Mass the Kindy children will be testing out the inflatable water slide and obstacle courses and will be followed soon after by the Pre-Primary children. Parents are most welcome to come along during their children’s allocated time as listed. Please ensure that all permission slips have been returned as children will not be allowed to participate without this. Children and staff are welcome to wear casual dress for our special day and to bring their bathers and towel for their water slide session. We will have sunscreen available throughout the day for top ups but it would be helpful if parents could ensure that children have applied this before they come to school.
The fun activities will continue into the evening with the P&F Night Market commencing at 5.00pm with further opportunities to enjoy the inflatable water slide and obstacle courses which have been booked until 8.00pm. There will be a range of tasty food and refreshing drinks available for purchase at very reasonable prices. We hope to see many families enjoying each other’s company and the activities that the P&F has arranged. Why not try a Hot Beef Roll or Sausage Sizzle from the staff food stall in the Canteen?
N.B. As this is a Licenced event no BYO alcohol is permitted.
CAMP
Next Monday morning our Year Six students head off to Camp Quaranup in Albany for their School Camp. This is the first of many significant events that the children will experience during this, their final year of Primary School. The staff have been working hard to ensure that there will be a wide range of activities to engage the children throughout the week coupled with some down time to spend with their friends. Camp is generally one of the things that stands out most in the children’s ongoing memories of Primary School and I hope that they, and the staff, have a great week of fun activities and friendships.
CONDOLENCES
Our sincere condolences to Heidi, Jason and Peyton Brown on the devastating loss of their son and brother, Landon. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this most difficult time.
REMINDER
Friday 28 February has been set aside as a day of Professional Development for the staff and children do not attend school on this day. With the following Monday being the Labour Day holiday it could be a great opportunity to enjoy a long, long family weekend.
HEALTH CARE CARD
In accordance with the Catholic Education WA Ltd policy the school provides considerable assistance with payment of school fees. A reminder to all Health Care Card (HCC) holders that discount applies to the HCC holder only. This discount is applied to tuition fees, amenities and building levy charges. All other school fees are payable. HCC holders are requested to complete a form available at reception and present your current Health Care Card.
STUDENT ABSENTEES
This year the SMS sent by the school can be replied to immediately. We would appreciate you using this service so you do not get an absentee follow up letter. VIDEO: BEING SAFE ON THE INTERNET
RECOMMENDED AGES: Grade 5 & 6
The internet is a great place for young people to do research for school, share pictures with friends, play video games or check out the latest trending videos. It’s important to remember that billions of people access the internet, so there are lots of opportunities to connect—but not everyone has the best intentions for doing so.
It is never okay to bully someone. Bullying someone online—through email, social media, text messaging or any other website or app—is called cyberbullying, and it is a form of bullying.
It’s important for young people to think critically before sharing personal information, pictures or videos online. Nothing on the internet is completely private, but young people can avoid unwanted contact and unwanted content by using online safety tools, understanding privacy and location settings and keeping strong passwords.
Conversation starters:
What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen online?
Have you ever seen something online that made you feel worried?
Can other people see pictures you post of me online?
How would you know if something online was fake?
Who would you go to if something negative happened online?
