Swift - Slaybaugh Complex
December 19, 2021
Principal's Newsletter
Dear Parents/Guardians,
In an effort to streamline our bussing and parent pick-up procedures, we have some upcoming changes at the Swift-Slaybaugh Complex that will begin onTuesday, January 18th. All parent drop-off and end of the day parent pick-up for students kindergarten through third grade will occur at the Swift building. Preschool parent pick-up will remain the same and will continue to occur at the Slaybaugh Primary building. All students K-3 riding the bus will meet their respective buses in the parking lot in front of the Slaybaugh Elementary building.
Changes to Parent Drop-Off and Pick-Up Drop Off:
● Every student K-3 will be dropped off at the Swift School.
● You can begin lining up as early as 8:50 and duty teachers will be out to unload students at 9:00.
● If you are dropping your child off later in the day, anytime after 9:30, you can drop your child off at their respective building, either Slaybaugh Elementary (2nd & 3rd) or Swift (K & 1st), as you will need to park and walk them into the building.
Parent Pick-Up Times:
● Any parent picking up after 3:10 will be required to go to Swift for all students K-3rd.
● If you are picking up your child prior to this point in the day, i.e. an early out for a doctor’s appointment, you will continue to go to their respective school building.
● For students that are not an everyday pick up, please notify the school no later than 3pm that your child is being picked up and plan to meet them at the Swift school
● Parents picking up K/1st students only should begin arriving at 3:10at Swift school
● Parents picking up students from both Swift and Slaybaugh Elementary, or just students from Slaybaugh Elementary, should begin arriving at 3:20. ○ The reason for the different times is to allow the students at Swift building to exit first and clear out the first part of the line before the students from Slaybaugh Elementary arrive.
Pick-Up Procedures:
● Staff members will be opening the car door and helping to load your student in the car
● If you have a student who is still in a car seat, we ask that you please continue to park and walk up to get your student. This is to avoid delays in the car line. If your child is in a booster seat, you are welcome to use the car line, as this loading process is still quick. If you have multiple students but only one is in a booster seat, please make sure the booster seat is on the passenger side so a staff member can assist with securing your child in their seat.
Car Placards for Students Picked-Up Two or More Days a Week.
● Any student who is regularly picked up, twice a week or more, will be assigned up to two number placards for their afterschool caregivers’ car(s)
● These placards will be numbered and associated with your child(ren) and the car(s) you identify to be used for regular pick-up
● The placards will be provided to you at parent pick-up prior to the new procedures’ start date
● The placards should be hung behind the rearview mirror to allow staff to identify which child or children are being picked-up
● If you have additional caregivers who pick up, other than the most frequent two who have the car placards, when they arrive they must park in front of Swift and go to the main entrance to be vetted.
Placard Assignment and Security:
● In an effort to ensure your child’s safety, we asked you to provide the information that you want associated with your placard(s). This information included car make/model, color, and license plate
● Reminder: You only needed to provide this information if you are picking up your child AT LEAST two days every week.
● If you are only picking up sometimes, you will park at Swift and come to the front office.
Like anything new, we know there will be some bumps in the beginning, but our hope is that this new system will prove to be more convenient for families. We thank you for your cooperation, flexibility, and patience as we continue to improve our processes.
Have a wonderful and safe holiday season with your family and friends, and we'll see you all back here on Monday, January 4th!
Sincerely,
Rachel Casumpang, Interim Principal
Joetta Surace, Interim Assistant Principal
