What is Copyright


Copyright is a collection of rights that are granted to the author of a piece of work.

For example a book, song, video, software, etc.

Copyright Licenses

There are 5 types of copyright license, they are Public Domain, Freeware, Shareware, All Rights Reserved and, Open Source.

Public Domain

Public domain is not protected by copyright law either because of expiration, made with public money or someone donated it.
For example, classic music and literature is Public Domain.


Freeware is copyrighted work that you can copy, use or give away for free.


Shareware is copyrighted work that you can use for free for a limited time but eventually you need to pay for the full version.

All Right Reserved

All Rights Reserved only allows the purchaser to use the software according to the license agreement.

Open Source

Open Source is software the includes the source code with the idea someone can improve it.

For example, Firefox and Google Chrome are Open Source.
