Marco Beltrami

History
- Marco Beltrami was born on October 7, 1966 on Long Island, New York.
- After graduating high school, Beltrami continued on to receive an education at Brown University. After his undergraduate graduation he studied at the Yale School of Music and then moved west to the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles where he was taught by the legendary composer Jerry Goldsmith.
- Throughout his career he has collaborated with directors such as Len Wiseman, John Moore, Wes Craven and Guillermo del Toro along with other musicians such as Marilyn Manson.
- Beltrami's signature style is highly percussive. He often uses both traditional percussion instruments like bass drums, as well as violins and brass instruments to form layers of hits and stabs.
Start of Career
- Beltrami's first feature was the movie Death Match released in 1994, though he earned a higher level of public acclaim in 1996 with the soundtrack he composed for the hit shocker/horror Scream.
- Since then Beltrami has found himself a steady horror and action music composer.

Awards
- Beltrami has been nominated for two Academy Awards for: 3:10 to Yuma and The Hurt Locker and won a Satellite Award for Best Original Score for Soul Surfer.

The Giver
The Giver is a cinematic interpretation of Lois Lowry's book by the same name. It follows Jonas in his journey through life in a seemingly Utopian society without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice. On his twelfth birthday Jonas is selected to learn about the true pain and pleasure of the "real" world. With his new-found knowledge he attempts share color, memories and emotion with his friends. In the process Jonas upsets some of his political leaders and from there he must make a decision about the importance of truth or safety.
