EAST CHINA SCHOOL DISTRICT BOND UPDATE
The East China School District Bond Steering Committee held their second meeting on August 29th. During this meeting, we discussed the long-term declining enrollment that East China School District has been experiencing over the past 17 years and what impact that has on our programs both in the areas of extra curricular activities and class offerings. East China School District currently operates ten school buildings including the early childhood classrooms located at central office. We discussed many different ideas to address our challenges including the possible consolidation of current school buildings, renovations and/or building new structures.
The next Bond Steering Committee meeting will be held on September 13th.
Thank you to all of our Bond Steering Committee members for volunteering their time and talents towards helping us chart a path for the future of The East China School District.

REHS STUDENTS ARE REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
Staff and students at Riverview East High School are reaching new heights. P.E.A.K. time (Performing Exceptional Acts w/ Knowledge) will create flexible opportunities for staff and students to more deeply explore content, develop projects, organize events, work with our community, and create opportunities not always available in the traditional classroom setting.
We recognize the importance of helping students understand the world around them as well as the talents within and will utilize this adaptive, student-driven approach to assure that all students are able to work toward their true potential. In doing so, REHS relies on donations, volunteers, and community partnerships.
P.E.A.K. time will be designed around needs in our community and will help develop lifelong learners who are active, compassionate citizens. Beyond arming our students with the skills and knowledge provided through daily classroom instruction, we believe it is vital to make real-world connections allowing for students to develop a greater sense of purpose and belonging.
If you or someone you know has a resource, skill, challenge, or experience that our students would benefit from, please contact Jason Stier at 810-676-1285 or jstier@ecsd.us.
Be sure the follow Riverview East High School on Facebook for all the latest on P.E.A.K.
WE ARE OFF TO A GREAT START!
SCHS ART TEACHER ATTENDS AWLS THIS SUMMER
Cindy Whisman, SCHS Art Teacher, attended a week long program in Jackson, Wyoming. The program is called American Wilderness Leadership School. The American Wilderness Leadership Schools offers hands-on lessons focused around the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation as well as engaging take home lessons on conservation education that have been integrated into K-12 math, science, language arts, social studies, visual arts and physical education. The program was established in 1976 with the vision of providing educators with a useful hands-on experience that they can bring home to their classrooms. AWLS has provided an accredited conservation education program for more than 6,000 teachers who reach more than a million students annually. Jenny Olsen, the co-host and videographer for the television show, Michigan Out of Doors also attended the school with Mrs. Whisman. Mrs. Whisman will be using the knowledge she gained for one of her first art lessons. Jenny Olsen will be joining a few of the art classes to video segments and interview students about the lesson. The students, parents and community will be informed when the show airs.
