Avery Moments
September 22, 2020
Dear Avery Families,
I would like to begin by thanking our students, staff and families for their collaboration in working through the first three days of remote learning. We had many connection issues, glitches with Zoom, difficulty joining and remaining in the session, not to mention the awkwardness of this type of instruction. However, we were able to work together to troubleshoot most of the issues and each day has been an improvement.
I would like to thank the Avery PTO for the beautiful floral arrangement that was delivered Friday as well as the surprise treats that were set up today for the staff in a continuation of the "Teacher Appreciation Week" which began back in the Spring. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated!
Last week was a difficult time for the teachers as they navigated the new mode of instruction. The many encouraging emails bolstered their morale to carry them through the frustrations. As we work through these days together, our students will benefit.
Just a note- clicking on the little figure of the man provides the opportunity for translations and enlargements.

Important Information about Zoom!
- At the bottom left corner of the screen is a little circle. Click on this circle.
- A gray section will appear at the bottom of the screen with a little blinking arrow heading up. Click on the arrow.
- On your screen will appear the symbols for many applications. On the right hand side of the screen are two little dots. Click on the bottom dot.
- This moves you to the next screen on which you will find the Zoom link. Click on this.
- It will bring up a screen that has your child's name at the top with the word "Logout" next to it. You should click on "Logout".
- When you log out, it will bring you to a screen that says Sign In highlighted. Choose "Sign in with Google".
- The screen will ask for an email- this is where you will type in your child's username- first name.last name@student.dedham.k12.ma.us. then click "Next".
- It will ask for your students password. Type it in here. (This is the same one you use to log onto the Chromebook.) This will log you into Zoom for the day.
- Click on the small X at the top.
- Now your child should sign into the Google Classroom or Seesaw site for your child's teacher.

Library News
CURBSIDE BOOKS! Our library is now open (virtually) 24/7! Your child can login with his/her Dedham e-mail address and password. Click on the book you would like and click "Hold." I will bag these up for you and put them in the bin outside Avery's front door. Visit our website http://bit.ly/averylibrary for more information.
Do you have library books to return (maybe some from the spring)? You can return all Dedham Public School books to the bin at the front door (even your ECEC ones). I will make sure they get back home.
Are you wondering what books your child has checked out? Fill out this form and I will get back to you.
