FROM THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE
- Parents/guardians should notify the school office before an absence occurs whenever possible. In the case of an illness, parents should notify the school office before school starts that day. When circumstances do not allow for this, parents will have two school days after an absence in order to report it for possible identification as an excused absence. We are unable to excuse absences more than two school days after they take place.
- In order to allow students to leave on time for an appointment or for any other reason it is helpful to the staff to get a notice at least 10 minutes prior to parents showing up in the parking lot. Please call the attendance office at 503-673-7602 and leave a voicemail as they are checked regularly and will allow our staff to have plenty of time to get a note to your student's classroom.
- If your student will be leaving during the school day please have them bring a note to Raul at the Attendance Window. This will allow them to receive an Early Release slip that can then be presented to their teacher. Thanks for helping us make the early release process a smooth one.
STUDENT PARKING
As a reminder parking on campus is reserved for 11th and 12th graders who have purchased a parking pass. No sophomores are allowed to park on campus. Please park in your designated parking area according to your parking pass color. Do not park in spaces marked FEC. These spaces are designated for visitors to the Family Empowerment Center. Thank you for helping to keep our student parking areas safe and orderly.
Doernbecher Faculty Challenge Fundraiser
After school on our early release day of 5/8, we'll host our 27th annual Doernbecher Faculty Challenge Fundraiser. For this event, student teams play staff teams in fun, non-competitive games of basketball or dodgeball to raise money for Doernbecher Children's Hospital. We've raised over $185,000 for the research hospital over the years, and we will raise thousands more over the course of this year's campaign.
We encourage all students, clubs, and sports teams to gather up a squad, collect $60 in donations, and play the staff! Silly costumes encouraged. Get a form from Mr. Ryan in room 200 or with the bookkeeper and deliver it to her with your donation. All funds go directly to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
Your student can also bring a donation to our bookkeeper to help continue our tradition of supporting Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
WVHS Theatre
WVHS Theatre presents Sense and Sensibility, opening May 9th!
Sense & Sensibility examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. It answers the question, when reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart? Playwright Kate Hamill has written a fresh adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel that follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters—sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne—after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Theatrically bold, set in gossipy late 18th-century England, this newly adapted play is full of humor and emotional depth.
Opening night of the play is Thursday, May 9th at 7pm. Performances will continue Friday, May 10th and Saturday, May 11th. Shows resume the following week Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 16th, 17th at 7pm and May 18th at 2 pm for a total of six performances. The final show will be a matinee.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and are on sale through https://teachtix.com/wilsonville. Listening devices are available upon request at the box office. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. This show is recommended for ages 10 and up. Children under five will not be admitted. Ticketed seats are required for all attendees.

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE
Host family opportunities April 2024
You can host a Rotary exchange student for part of the school year, and you do not have to be a Rotarian.
Why do it? To have fun, share your family traditions and culture and help guide future leaders. And to learn about different traditions and cultures and expand your horizons.
- We are looking for anyone with a desire to support a young person for a few months. We
welcome all types of families as host families. Families with young children, families with older
children, families with no children, singles.
What is it? The host family provides the student with a bedroom and meals for a few months and includes the student in typical family activities. The student will usually have 2 or 3 host families in the school year. The student attends Wilsonville High School. Rotary provides the student money for school expenses and a monthly allowance for incidentals. Rotary assists in setting up classes, transportation and includes the student in many events and fun getaways.
For additional Rotary youth exchange information go to www.youthexchange5100.org
For additional information on becoming a host family contact me directly.

COMMUNITY ED CLASSES 2024 SPRING SEASON INFORMATION
Migrant Ed Program
Cell Phone Policy
At the start of second semester we are resetting expectations about our cell phone policy. Students are expected to be “present for learning,” which includes being in class, on time, and ready to learn. It also means no cell phones should be out during class time, including life class.
To help enforce this policy, It is expected that students store their cell phones in cell phone pockets or a backpack in every class. Additionally, cell phones should not be present in the hallways during class time. If administrators see students on their phones during class time, cell phones will be confiscated. We will secure them in the main office, and students can pick them up at the end of the school day.
QPR TRAINING
Free & Reduced Lunch Program
Have you heard of the federally funded Free & Reduced Lunch Program offered by the District? This is a completely confidential, underutilized program that comes with a few additional perks at Wilsonville High School, such as: athletic and activity fees waived, AP exam fees waived, and the possibility of other reduced school costs.
Even if you've applied before and didn't qualify, I recommend you try again, as Oregon has added additional funding. The District is still accepting applications. You can find the application link on the District's website under Nutrition Services, as well as additional information about the program.
We're all looking for ways to stretch our dollar these days, and this is an opportunity to help you do that. Please reach-out to our Bookkeeper if you have any questions or concerns at stonekiw@wlwv.k12.or.us.

FAFSA and ORSAA are Open for the Class of 2024
It is time for the class of 2024 to submit financial aid applications if they have not already done so. Applications already submitted should be available to review and make corrections next week.
The FAFSA is a federal document completed by the student and parent, with information from the parents’ 2022 tax filing. It assesses the student’s and their family's financial situation to determine how much they can afford for college. The FAFSA is the form for accessing grants, federal student loans, and work-study funds (need-based financial aid).
Students and their parents will need their own FSA ID to fill out the FAFSA. If you do not already have an FSA ID, you can set one up now at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch. It can take a few days for this to process.
Access the FAFSA here: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
