Reminders For Student Success
Our field trip to the museum on Monday March 4th, Please return the permission slips if you have not done so already, if you have not filled out the volunteer application yet, unfortunately it is too late. Please have them submitted before our trip to the Zoo in April if you would like to chaperone that trip.
If you have not already registered for the school year next year, please do so here ,even if you are planning on moving please register and we can transfer your registration paperwork wherever you go!
I want to give a huge thank you to all of the parents and guardians who bring their kids to school every day and on time, the growth that you students are showing is largely linked to the good routines and supports you have for your kids.
Drop off starts at 7:40am, PLEASE BRING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL ON TIME. A student that is late is missing out on learning and It takes extra time that we do not have in the day to catch them up.
Kids at this age need 10-12 hours of sleep every night, meaning if you are waking them up at 6am they need to be in bed no later than 8pm. Kids who do not get enough sleep have a very hard time focusing and can fall behind even if they attend school every day.
If your student brings their Chromebook home, please make sure that they charge it overnight and bring it to school every day.
Learning This Week:
This is what we are working on this week and ideas for what you can do at home to help your child exceed!
Literacy
We continued our letter deck where the students name a lower case letter, trace the letter in the air, say the name of the picture associated with the letter and then the sound the letter makes.
Mr. Giffen's Group - We are spelling and reading 3 and 4 letter letter words. As we continue to learn new sight words it is good to practice them at home, so ask your student what words we practiced for that day and practice reading them at home. We also continued learning our spelling rule for -ck following a short vowel. We have been working on long vowels with a silent "e" at the end of our words, and are continuing to advance our spelling a reading skills. We are now including blends into our spelling, adding and extra challenge to our spelling and reading skills.
Ms. Nelson's Group - The students have practiced with each letter again and are reintroducing digraphs like "sh, ch, th, wh".
Any opportunity at home to practice the alphabet and letter sounds please do so.
Math
Mr. Giffen - This weeks focus was on solid, or 3 dimensional shapes, and their flat counter parts. We will continue this unit next week as well.
Ms. Nelson - students are working on addition and subtraction skills 1-10.
AT HOME: Practice counting snacks, toys, anything is a learning tool at this age.
