Talking to Children & Teens About Racialized Incidents
Message to Parents
By the age of three years old, your child begins to develop a racial construct that influences how they see themselves and the world around them. It's never too early or late to talk about and model an appreciation of what makes us different and unique. Our office compiled a list of resources designed to help start or continue the conversations about race. This is in no way a complete list of what's available to support the dialogue about race. It's meant to be a starting point in your family's exploration of cultural diversity. Your school counselor is available if you feel your child needs additional support to cope with recent events. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your school if you need additional supports now or in the future.
