Mrs. Dinielli's Message
Dear LOMS Staff,
Each year in SLCUSD, middle school and high school students have the opportunity to share their voice about their school. They do this through the Youth Truth Survey.
Youth Truth is a survey that asks kids to share their school experiences across a variety of domains. A couple of great things about this survey:
- We get to hear from EVERY student at our school (Awesome! Not something many of us got to do in school)
- We get to see our results for LOMS & by grade level against national norms
- We get to use the data to see areas we are strong in
- We get to use the data to identify growth areas & set goals
Here is a video made by LOMS Supt. Senate that will be shown in all Advisory classes today & Monday to kick off the survey. The important messages here are for kids to take the survey seriously, be honest, share what they LOVE about LOMS, share where they think LOMS could improve, & only speak from 1st hand experience, not things the have heard through rumors.
Survey will be taken T/W/TH in Advisory. It should take 40 min. total. Students will need to write their names on their log in cards on T. They use the same code each day. On TH, send to the office all cards of students who DID NOT COMPLETE the survey for make ups. Cards of students who finished can be recycled.
Thank you LOMS for your support of this important initiative to hear from our kids!

Things to Do
RFEP Shadowing Days Have Been Scheduled. See your assigned day & request a morning half day sub. Enter into Aesop by Friday 26th.
11/28 1. Rusty, 2. Eric, 3. Brooke, 4. Dan, 5. Annie, 6. Caroline, 7. Murray, 8. Pam, 9. Gwen
2/5 1. Jamie, 2. Joe, 3. Nick, 4. Angela, 5. Marc, 6. Gretchen, 7. Ken, 8. Phil
3/5 1. Rose, 2. Cole, 3. Lynnly, 4. Karen, 5. Greg, 6. Harris, 7. Rose, 8. Andy, 9. Raquel
These days will be similar to the EL Shadowing we did last school year, with an evolution. The lens will be reading & writing connections and rigor for RFEP students. We will do some professional learning together and look at the school day through the eyes of an RFEP learner. These are our bilingual kids, but they may not be biliterate and may need supports to raise the level of rigor in their reading & writing.
Interesting Fact: RFEP'd students can earn a Seal of Biliteracy on their High School Diploma. Last year 2 RFEP'd students earned this seal at MBHS, the rest of the kids earning this were English as a first language kids who learned Spanish or French. That would be fun to help our kids shift!
LOMS Culture of Care & Equity Updates
Rapid Intervention - In this week's staff meeting, we held our first Rapid Intervention of the school year. RI is a time for a grade level team to prioritize kids who are a concern across classes/teachers & to come up with a plan as a team to support that student. Providing fluid & flexible coordinated supports is key for student success.
Next Steps:
- Denise will be meeting with all students who were added to your RI lists to do academic counseling and will add notes on your RI forms.
- Your RI forms will be copied and distributed to your grade level.
- Continue the conversation as a grade level about the support you are giving these students and how it is going.
- At our 11/28 staff meeting, we will hold another Rapid Intervention session to check back in on these students and how the supports are working.
