Postural Screenings
Postural Screenings for Grade 9 Students who currently take Physical Education will take place during the week of March 11th-15th.
According to Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 71, postural screening must be done in grades 5-9. The purpose of the postural screening is to identify early signs of spinal problems. Most scoliosis and other spinal issues can be easily treated upon early detection. Girls and boys are screened separately and privacy is respected at all times. We ask that prior to screening, girls wear a halter top or sports bra on the day of the screening as this type of clothing facilitates better examination of the back. Only unusual findings are reported to parents/guardians. Please notify your child’s school nurse via email or a caregiver signed letter, if you do not wish them to participate in this screening program, or if they are already followed by a physician for a spinal problem.
Course Selection
It is already that time of year for students to start thinking about their course selections for next year. Teachers will be consulting with students over the next couple of weeks to discuss which course levels they will be recommending. Students will begin selecting their courses in early March during Titan Time seminars with their guidance counselors. Students and parents should review their selections together at home. The scheduling window will officially close on March 29th.
Scheduling Seminars:
- Grade 11 - Tuesday, March 5 - Friday, March 8
- Grade 10 - Tuesday, March 12 - Friday, March 15
- Grade 9 - Tuesday, March 19 - Friday, March 22
- Grade 8 - Tuesday, March 5 - Friday, March 8
*Please note: course selection is not selecting your actual schedule, it is simply choosing the classes that will determine which classes and the number of sections that will need to run. Being the first or last person to select courses will have no impact on your schedule.
It is strongly recommended that students read course descriptions prior to selecting an elective course so they can ensure they have a genuine interest in taking the course. Course descriptions are available in PowerSchool and in the Program of Studies. You may view the Program of Studies by clicking on the following link.
