2023 SSS Grad Parent Update
April 7, 2023
Graduation Day is fast approaching so watch for upcoming deadlines!
The latest grad list has been posted. Is your child on it?
Please have your child log into the Grad Google Classroom and show you their name!
Draft #2 of the 2023 SSS Grad List has been uploaded to Google Classroom. The list is not public at this time so I cannot attach it to this newsletter for you to see for yourself. It is posted in the Grad Google Classroom as it is permissable to post other student's names within the school/class. Please ask your student to log into the Grad Google Classroom and open an assignment called "Second Draft of the 2022 Grad List. Are you on it??" and show you their name on the list. If they are not on the list please check PowerSchool first as the most common reason to be removed from the grad list is due to failing a course.
The student instructions for this assignment are:
You must open and view the attached grad list. If you are not on it then you are not permitted to attend the cap and gown event on May 26th unless you fix the issues and make it back on to the grad list.
If you were removed from the grad list and would like to be reinstated you must contact Mr. Lauzon to discuss your grad status. Remember, you must be in good standing at the school in order to attend the cap and gown event on May 26th. This means that you must be attending all of your classes, passing every course, have no missing assignments, paid all school fees (grad fees and any other outstanding school or library fees), and have completed or be on track to complete and pass CALM and any other courses that you may require for credits to graduate.
If you are not on this list, you must contact Mr. Lauzon and create a plan to meet all of the requirements to be added to the next grad list. The next updated grad list will be posted the week of May 1st. After you view the grad list please turn in this assignment so we can confirm that you have reviewed the list.
Grad Fees Are Now Due
Grad fees are only the cost of the items needed for the cap and gown ceremony. This includes: diploma covers, caps, gowns, tassels, decor, and professional photo.
Please note: In order to be a student in good standing and be eligible for the cap & gown ceremony, all fees must be paid. This includes grad fees, library fees, school fees, and sports fees.
Have you requested your tickets for the cap & gown ceremony?
Final date to request tickets is APRIL 15th!
We have confirmed the capacity of our gymnasium and developed a seating plan. According to our capacity, each graduate will be given 8 tickets for guests. We realize that some families may not need all 8 tickets and that other families are large and would really like to request additional tickets and this can all be done through the Google form (see link below).
It is essential that one parent or guardian click on the link below and fill out the Cap & Gown Ceremony Ticket Request form before April 15th so that we can distribute the tickets in a way that allows for as many guests as possible to enjoy the ceremony.
We will use the Google form information to distribute any extra tickets. We will be giving one extra ticket at a time to each requesting family on the list and repeating this process until all of the tickets have been evenly distributed. Any graduates not on the final grad list on May 19th will have their tickets revoked. This ticket request form must be completed by April 15th and all extra tickets will be finalized and distributed to grads on April 21st.
Have you had grad photos completed yet?
Please ensure that grad photos have been booked and that the appointment is done before April 30th. Having the photos taken after this date means that it is not guaranteed to have a grad photo in the grad ceremony slideshow.
Also note, if your grad photos are not taken at Watson's Foto Source, you will need to forward a high resolution digital copy via email to Mr. Stewart at kylestewart@pwpsd.ca.
Parent Led Grad Activities
All graduation celebrations beyond the cap and gown ceremony are being planned by a parent committee and the school does not have any information about these events.
Please connect with the lead for this committee, Kim Janzen, if you haven't done so already. Her email address is jakimok@hotmail.com. This committee has already done so much work to create some wonderful events for the grads and they could use your help so please reach out and offer any assistance you can and make sure that you are staying informed about upcoming deadlines and planning.
