Lockout, Shelter in Place and Lockdown, Explained
It can be unnerving to hear about certain protocols taking place in a school for safety and/or security reasons. What’s happening when your child’s school is in “lockout” “shelter in place” or “lockdown”? Here are the procedures followed:
LOCKOUT
1. All outside activities are suspended.
2. Exterior doors remain secured.
3. No one is permitted to exit or enter the building except for outside activities.
4. Classroom instructions and the change of classes proceed as normal.
SHELTER IN PLACE
1. All outside activities are suspended.
2. Exterior doors remain secured.
3. No one is permitted to exit or enter the building.
4. School staff remain in their classrooms and office areas.
5. Classroom doors and windows are secured and there is no change of classes.
6. Teachers continue to provide classroom instructions.
LOCKDOWN
1. School staff conducting outside activities relocate to an alternate site off school grounds.
2. Exterior doors remain secured.
3. No one is permitted to exit or enter the building.
4. School staff remain in their classrooms and office areas.
5. Classroom doors and windows are secured and there is no change of classes.
6. Lights are turned off and silence is maintained.
7. Students are relocated, out of sight.
8. Staff take measures to communicate if an emergency exists at their location.
Reminders about Free & Reduced Price Meals and Lunch Accounts
We ask that parents who have not already done so please submit their application for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-2023 school year. An email with a letter of explanation and an application in English and in Spanish has been sent to all parents. The application period opened on August 1, 2022 and is ongoing. You may apply online at chclc.org/lunch or by submitting paper forms. Mailing instructions are included on the paper forms. Paper forms are available in the lobby of the Lewis Administration Building at 45 Ranoldo Terrace. Questions or assistance? Call (856) 429-5600 extension 4348.
Lunch accounts for students who do not qualify for free meals may be paid online through PaySchools Central or by sending or delivering to your child's school a check made out to Cherry Hill Public Schools, in an envelope labeled with your child's name, student ID number, and the words "Food Service Meal Account."
