District 135 Board of Education
The following items were discussed on Monday night:
Center students sang Veteran’s Day-themed songs and presented a slideshow to the Board of Education illustrating what they have been learning at Center School during the month of November.
The District approved the CLEAR Residency Program. CLEAR uses public record databases to help verify families’ addresses. CLEAR would not completely eliminate the document-submittal process but would decrease the amount of families who would have to submit documents. CLEAR will increase efficiency and save time for families during the registration process. The District will begin using CLEAR for the 2023-2024 school year.
The Teaching & Learning Department presented the Illinois Report Card based on the 2021-2022 school year data. The District received two exemplary designations and eight commendable designations. The District opened up the fee-based bus service for families who live closer than 1.5 miles from their home school. The service will begin December 3, 2022. The cost for the service is $340 fo AM and PM and $170 for either AM or PM.
The tentative levy was presented to the Board of Education which is the amount of tax revenue requested by the District. The District is asking for $76,495,000 for the 2022 Tax Levy. The proposed levy is now on display until the December Board of Education Meeting.
Superintendent John Bryk proclaimed November 15 as School Board Member Day and the School Board proclaimed November 16 as Illinois Education Support Personnel Day. He thanked both the Board as well as all Support staff throughout the District for all their hard work and contributions to the success of OSD135.
The District is participating in the Orland Park Holiday Fesitval Parade on November 27th. Families are welcome to attend the parade as well as the holiday market and tree lighting that follows!
The Board of Education approved the hiring of Ted Schulz, the current Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds, as the new Director of Buildings and Grounds.
