November News
Glenburnie Public School 2023
Principal's Update
Progress reports and Kindergarten Observations of Learning reports will be sent home on Friday November 17th with students. This snapshot report focuses on student progress, not achievement. If you wish to discuss your child's progress, please contact classroom teachers to set up a meeting or telephone call.
Throughout the month of November our school board will be focusing on the following:
National Indigenous Education Month (November)
Holocaust Awareness Week Nov 1-8
Transgender Awareness Week Nov 13-17
Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. Nov 20-24
On October 27th Glenburnie staff engaged in system-based learning as part of the PA Day. All JK-8 educators and administrators were at two area Secondary schools to engage in a variety of workshops on diverse topics including special education, literacy, trauma-informed practices, and mathematics. We heard from 2 keynote speakers who challenged us in the areas of wellness and inclusion. Staff in the LDSB continue to use the 3 inquiry questions we engaged with last year, to focus our learning and work this year:
- For whom is the education system not working?
- How do I know?
- What am I going to do differently?
We will continue to focus on this learning at our next PA day on Friday Nov 10 as well as school data to solidify our Student Acheivement Plan for our school.
As we prepare for the coming winter months, please make sure that students are dressing for cold, wet weather and please take note of protocols for bus cancellations due to inclement weather. A few reminders:
- When buses are cancelled in the morning, schools remain open in LDSB and students can be driven to school. Buses will not run at the end of the day. You must arrange for end of day transportation at dismissal time (3:35 pm).
- If your child is absent on an inclement weather day due to a bus cancellation, please report their absence using the SafeArrival App https://go.schoolmessenger.com/#/home.
- Walkers and students who are being dropped off should arrive no earlier than 8:55 am or as close to 9:10 as possible. In the case of harsh weather conditions on the yard, staff will help students to report directly to their classrooms.
- As the weather continues to get colder please ensure students have extra warm gear with them each day.
Data Verification Forms were sent home with each student in mid-September. Please read carefully, sign and return even if there are no changes. These are very important to make sure our records are accurate.
Thank you for your continued support!
Yours in Education,
Jennifer Osborne, Principal

This will be an opportunity for students with the guidance of staff to honour the significance of the contributions of the many individuals and families who have served our country in the name of peace. Our ceremony will allow classes to share a collective moment of silence and pay tribute to the past and present work and sacrifice of Canadians of many races, genders and cultures.

School Day Online Payments
Glenburnie PS continues to offer our families a new secure portal to complete permissions and payments online. With School-Day: Permissions & Payments, you will be able to complete permission forms and payments from any web browser using your SmartPhone, tablet, laptop or desktop.
Through this new online portal, you will be able to pay for items such as:
· Field trips
· Sporting events
· Student cards/athletic fees
· Hot lunch (where applicable)
The new easy-to-use portal will remove the risks associated with sending money to school with students, the frustration of lost or missing permission forms, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes.
If you have not yet signed up for School day, a School-Day Information Letter can be sent home on your request! Use the instructions in it to sign up for a School-Day account at www.school-day.com and connect to your child’s events and activities.
If you did not receive this letter, please contact the office.
With your support, we look forward to a successful implementation of this practical application!
School Messenger
LDSB schools and school board use School Messenger to send key messages, alerts, and general communication to families. Glenburnie PS uses this platform and will continue to use our newsletters to provide updates to families. These newsletters are where we will share school-specific information and events in the building. This newsletter is sent out via School Messenger and posted on our school website.
SchoolMessenger App: Download the SchoolMessenger App to stay connected. Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app. *New families will be able to create their account after the first day of attendance.
The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account.
