14th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
The 14th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was a success! The recurring theme of the inductee speeches at the dinner was how they've never forgotten their Oroville roots and the profound influence that many teachers and community members had on their lives. "This is another outstanding Hall of Fame Class. The HOF is the most rewarding project I’ve been involved in since retiring in 2000. I never cease to be amazed at the incredibly successful people we find who were students, employees and contributors in our schools," said Ray Sehorn, OUHSD Hall of Fame Chair and Board of Education Trustee.

Staff Transition Updates
In light of the transitions we're experiencing this school year, OUHSD has a few important staffing updates to announce:
Brenda Gutierrez, New Human Resources Manager (pictured bottom right): Brenda Gutierrez has worked in OUHSD since 2010, first as a bilingual paraeducator, and most recently as the Administrative Secretary/Registrar in Las Plumas High School’s counseling office. Brenda will assume the role of Human Resources Manager at the District Office. Brenda's exceptional relationship-building, attention to detail, and organizational skills make her a valuable addition to the Human Resources Department. Her responsibilities will include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new staff, as well as overseeing the department's daily operations, including leaves and benefits.
Pa Houa Yang, New Educational Services Technician (pictured top right): Pa has been a dedicated member of OUHSD for eight years, serving most recently as the Administrative Secretary/Principals Secretary at Las Plumas High School. Pa will assume her new role as the Educational Services Technician once her replacement is selected for her current position at Las Plumas High School, ensuring a seamless transition and continued support.
Karen Villalobos, Ed.D, New Interim Principal at Las Plumas High School (pictured left): We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mary Lynch for her dedicated service as the interim principal at Las Plumas High School for the past 10 weeks. Mary will be assuming her role as the Director of Special Education and Student Services, where her expertise and commitment are highly valued.
Filling in for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year, we are pleased to introduce a distinguished educator and administrator, Karen Villalobos, Ed.D., as the new interim principal of Las Plumas High School. Dr. Villalobos comes to us with a wealth of experience, having served as the Superintendent/Principal of Twin Rivers Charter School for six years. During her tenure, she worked collaboratively with the staff to achieve remarkable improvements in student achievement, with gains exceeding 40% in both English Language Arts and mathematics. Her extensive experience in teacher professional development, including her role as the Beginning Teacher Support & Assessment (BTSA) Director for the Sutter County Superintendent of Schools, underscores her commitment to enhancing educational outcomes.
Dr. Villalobos is recognized as the 2023 California Distinguished School Superintendent/Principal and the 2023 Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) State Superintendent/Principal of the Year. Her proven track record and commitment to educational excellence make her a valuable addition to our team.
Limited Office Staff Available During Thanksgiving Week
The week of November 20th is Thanksgiving break. There will be limited office staff available in the district office and school sites. The District Office and our school sites on Monday and Tuesday. All sites will be closed Wednesday through Friday. We hope our families have a safe and enjoyable week off. School will reopen on November 27th.
October Student and Staff Spotlight Winners
Student and Staff Spotlight is OUHSD's district-wide student and staff monthly recognition program, which recognizes all of the ways that our students and staff are striving and going above and beyond. "Alisha is one of the best colleagues one can have. The love she has for our students and school is outrageous. She is patient and kind, firm and consistent. Mental Health Class: Grief and Loss
OUHSD has partnered with Daybreak Health to hold classes for Oroville families, focused on supporting youth mental health. Here’s more information about the class that being offered on Monday, November 27th from 5:30-6:30 p.m.:

If parents are unable to join virtually or would like to participate at one of the school sites, Oroville High School will host a viewing room at the OHS Library. Las Plumas High School will also open a viewing room at their library as well.
Daybreak Health is a youth mental health company that has partnered OUHSD to provide teletherapy for students and mental health classes for parents. They specialize in working with kids ages 10-19, who have mild to moderate challenges dealing with things like anxiety, depression, grief, stress, or trauma.

Prospect High Students Bring New Life to Bicycles in Recycled Cycles Class
PHS students in Mr. Lund's Recycled Cycles class are hard at work refurbishing bicycles! Kaylee is refurbishing a bike for her sister, Nataliya and Zack are building a bike, and check out Nataliya sporting fluorescent green on this refurbished Mongoose dirt bike.
OHS in the News
The ChicoER ran a front page story about Oroville High School's 14 new course offerings that commenced this school year, including: AP English 9 & 10, Human Development, Video Production, Psychology, Pre AP Biology, Personal Finance, Advanced PE, AP Chemistry, Physics of the Universe, Exploration of Teaching, Baking and Pastry and Math 1 with Computing and Robotics. There are plans to add more courses to accompany the classes over the next few years.

LPHS in the News
Members of the Las Plumas High School Interact Club stepped up to create a safe space where their peers who are struggling can get clothing and personal items at no cost. A total of $1,200 in cash and infrastructure items such as clothing racks, shelving, bin organizers and shoe racks were donated. Congratulations to Oroville High School's cheer team for winning 1st place in their first UCA competition! They had 0 deductions and a bid to go to Nationals. We are so proud of our Tigers!

Las Plumas High School: Anabelle Ruff-Tennis
Anabelle finished off the tennis season by upsetting Corning's #1 to earn BVL All League honors and advances to the North Section Finals.
Las Plumas High School: Aaliyah Lee-Volleyball
On senior night Aaliyah led her team with 5 kills, 1 block and several digs.
Oroville High School: Allie Jackson-Volleyball
Allie Jackson encompasses both athlete and student to the best definition of both! Allie has been involved in the following: volleyball-3 years, softball-2 years, track -1 year, ASB -1 year, Link Crew-2 years, BSU-1 year, Key Club-1 year, all while maintaining a GPA of 3.8! Allie is finishing up her role as an All League volleyball player. She is an outstanding Outside Hitter for OHS!

Oroville High School-Jesse Sargent
The OASIS Offensive Varsity Player of the Week for the week of October 27th sponsored by All American Welding & OASIS (Oroville Area Sports Initiative Supporters) is Jesse Sargent from Oroville High School. Jesse provided key blocks for running backs and the quarterback.
Oroville High School-Darren Lay
The OASIS Defensive Varsity Player of the Week for the week of October 27th sponsored by McClarren Ranch Supply & OASIS (Oroville Area Sports Initiative Supporters) is Darren Lay from Oroville High School. Darren had two tackles for losses.
Las Plumas High School-Hargis Billyos, Jr.
The OASIS Offensive Varsity Player of the Week for the weeks of October 20th and 27th sponsored by All American Welding & OASIS (Oroville Area Sports Initiative Supporters) is Hargis Billyos, Jr. from Las Plumas High School. Hargis had 10 Carries for 90 Yards, 1 Reception for 21 yards and 13 rushes for 90 yards, 2 receptions for 12 yards, 2 touchdowns.
Las Plumas High School-Gio Cordova & Adan Salazar
The OASIS Defensive Varsity Player of the Week for the week of October 27th sponsored by McClarren Ranch Supply & OASIS (Oroville Area Sports Initiative Supporters) is shared by Gio Cordova & Adan Salazar from Las Plumas High School. Gio had 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack and teammate Adan had 8 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, 1 pass defense.
Oroville High School-Degan Hayes-Franklin
The OASIS Offensive Varsity Player of the Week for the week of October 20th sponsored by All American Welding & OASIS (Oroville Area Sports Initiative Supporters) is Degan Hayes-Franklin from Oroville High School. Degan had several catches on the night and caught our first TD pass of the game. He also had several big returns on kickoffs that set up the offense in great field position.
Oroville High School-Jaime Ramirez
The OASIS Defensive Varsity Player of the Week for the week of October 20th sponsored by McClarren Ranch Supply & OASIS (Oroville Area Sports Initiative Supporters) is Jaime Ramirez from Oroville High School. Jaime had several tackles as a leader of the defense. One of his tackles led to a turnover on downs giving the ball back to the offense.

Dream Martinez, Donovan Walsh, and Melonie Gomez-Burgos were all awarded all-league honors today at the BVL championships. Donovan, a sophomore, also earned further recognition as a top 3 runner in league.
