A Message from Mr. Shepler

Dear Lockerman Middle School families,

Last Thursday and Friday, all LMS students were to complete the i-Ready ELA mid-year assessment from 8 AM- 9:20 AM. Next week, on Monday and Tuesday (Jan. 25-26), students will be completing the i-Ready Math mid-year assessment. The schedule for i-Ready testing is posted below.

Early next week, I will be sending out School Messenger emails and phone calls to parents of students identified as needing additional interventions and support due to low grades. Some students will be assigned to a Focus study hall class while others will be required to meet weekly during an assigned teachers flex time. We are working tirelessly to come up with creative ways to offer support to those students that are struggling academically.

I do want to take this opportunity to give a shout out to all of our students that are showing their PRIDE each and everyday. As of this morning, we have 53% of students passing all of their classes. We are proud of each of you for continuing to persevere during this challenging time. We will continue to recognize your achievements through positive office referrals and "Student of the Month" nominations.

A few upcoming events:

- Jan. 25th- Citizen's Advisory Council Meeting

- Jan. 25th and Jan. 26th- i-Ready Math Mid-Year Diagnostic Assessment

- Jan. 28th- Half Day of School for Students (End of Quarter 2)

Thanks.

Google Support

There have been opportunities for parent support offered by Lindsey Grow, CCPS Instructional Technology Teacher Specialist but we know that many are busy. Here are some resources that both parents and students can use if you are still experiencing difficulties with all the Google Suite tools.

SGA Toy Drive

Lockerman Middle School’s Student Government Association (SGA) held a successful toy drive in December, for Benedictine students who were unable to be with their families during the holiday. Under the leadership of Mr. Shane Hynson and Mrs. Takiyah Benson, SGA members collected gently used toys from teachers, staff and students. Mr. Hynson delivered them to our campus just before Christmas. Benedictine is very grateful to everyone who showed their Christmas Spirit by supporting Lockerman Middle School’s SGA toy drive!

2021-22 School Year Calendar

The district is in the process of developing the 2021-2022 school year calendar. Three

options are being considered by the Board of Education. A survey has been developed

in order for staff, families and community to help inform the Board’s final decision.

Please visit the CCPS website’s calendar page for more information about calendar

development, and to view the three options being considered. (A comparison chart of

the three options is provided, followed by the draft calendars.)

Once the calendar options have been viewed and considered, please take the

survey to provide feedback.

Citizen's Advisory Council

Our next Citizens Advisory Council meeting will be held on Monday, January 25th at 6 PM. If you are interested in joining us, please contact me directly at shepler.matthew@ccpsstaff.org. The agenda for the meeting is posted below.

Old Riverview Band Merchandise- Repost

"Hello Lockerman community!

My name is Emma Brestensky and I am the new band director at LMS. During this time of quarantining, I have worked hard to take inventory and clean out the various storage locations in the band room. While I was doing this, I came across some boxes of gear from the Riverview days. This gear is clean besides an extended stay in my storage room, and was found in plastic bags hung up nicely. I wanted to share this discovery with the community and am giving away this merchandise for free! There are sweaters, polos, and old marching band uniforms from the days of blue and gold. If you are interested in owning any of this gear for yourself or family members that are rooted deeply in the program, an order form will be attached to this newsletter. There, you will be able to view all of the available items and order your own on a first come, first served basis. Spread the word! These one of a kind pieces of our school's and community's history are available to anyone interested. Any questions, please send me an email at brestensky.emma@ccpsstaff.org."
