January News Letter
CMS has talented students! December had three concerts, and each was wonderful in its own way! The 7 & 8 band students started it off. Our students played with confidence and energy, and their performance demonstrated how much they had learned. Our Grade 5 students followed that with their Christmas concert. This was a wonderful demonstration of their learning as musicians, and they sang and performed with confidence and skill. And finally, on the last day of school, we were treated to an incredible display of talent at our annual talent show. It really is a treat to see what our students are learning about and practicing outside of school. Congratulations to all the participants and organizers for a really wonderful show.
January is a month to get back to routine. For some, routine can sound boring and predictable. For others, the predictability of routine makes learning possible. We value routine to support the learning environment, and also value special events and feature weeks to allow us to place extra emphasis on a particular topic. This month, we will be celebrating Pink Week, our annual focus on anti-bullying. We expect to take a low-key approach, but will also ensure that we get out the message that bullying and mistreatment are not desirable or acceptable. Instead, we ask students to choose kindness.
I want to take a moment to talk about school attendance. As you know, regular school attendance is a strong indicator of success in school and, later on, in work life. When school attendance is not possible, please call the school to leave a message. Your call to us helps us to know where your child is and will ensure you don’t get the attendance call from school.
January also signals the beginning of the basketball season for Grades 7 & 8 students. Parent involvement in what their children are doing at school is one significant success indicator for students. If possible, we really encourage parents to come to games and support their children as they learn the game. The results are amazing.
