Developing each student's potential with a world class education.
October 8, 2018
Dear Village Oaks Families,
It is with great pleasure that I congratulate our students, parents, community members, and staff--past and present--for working together to make VO a National Blue Ribbon Exemplary School! Only twelve other schools in our state received this great honor for the 2018 school year, which we earned through completing an extensive application, having high student test scores, implementing new initiatives, and building on best practices to support the specific needs of each of our students. Please visit the links below highlighting this special award for our beloved school. At a later date we will have a ceremony where we will unveil our NBRS plaque and banner for our entire community to enjoy. Thank you to everyone for partnering to make VO an elite learning institution!
Car Loop Parking Lot Changes
Starting Monday, October 8th the parking spots located in the drop off loop will be closed from 3:45pm-4:10pm everyday to ensure the safety of our students. Pick-up time is extremely busy and we have had several incidents where cars have almost collided due to cars backing out of the parking spots during pick-up time. Additionally, we have had close encounters with students almost being hit crossing over to the parking spots during dismissal. Please park in our parking lot if you need to exit your car to pick up your child at the end of the school day. Contact me if you have any questions regarding changes during dismissal. Thank you for your understanding.
Please join us for updates of district news and upcoming Village Oaks family events! Our first PTO meeting will be Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Oaks Media Center. Free childcare will be provided. We look forward to seeing you!
On October 31st we will have our Halloween Parade at 9:45am around our track. Teachers will contact parents with specific information regarding their classroom parties. As you prepare for Halloween and decide on whether your child will wear a costume, please make sure that the costume is not gory and no weapons are allowed. Additionally, please make sure that your child is wearing clothing under his/her costume. If you have any questions regarding costumes feel free to contact your child’s teacher or someone in the main office.
New Staff Highlight--Amanda Bailey (Resource Room Teacher)
Hello VO Families!
My name is Amanda Bailey. I am the new Resource Room teacher at Village Oaks. I graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, in N.Y. and have my Master’s degree in Literacy from Adelphi University. This is my 14th year teaching. I have experience in both general education and in special education. I am extremely grateful to call Novi Community Schools my new place of employment.
VO School Day Conversations
- During Villas we learned about the Power of Yet. What skill, activity, or action can you not do yet that you plan on being able to to do through practice and hard work?
- Why is it important to collaborate in school?
- When are the Words of Wisdom shared during day by Dr. Ofili?
At VO, we have HEART!
In Novi Community School District we believe in promoting high expectations for academics, meeting the emotional well being of our students and celebrating positive behavior for all of our learners.
At Village Oaks Elementary, we are building a culture of collaboration, leadership, and citizenship. As a school community, we strive to:
- Have a growth mindset
- Empathize and show kindness
- Act responsibly
- Respect everyone
- Team up and collaborate with others
Last Leaderific Friday we had our second Villa meeting. During the meeting we had discussions about things we could not do yet and then we completed an activity that focused on the power of yet! Enjoy the pictures below...

Your time is so greatly valued and appreciated!
One of the things that makes our building so special is our diverse student population--we have families in our community who come from all over the world! To celebrate our global diversity we have hung flags in our cafeteria that represent many of the countries of our VO families. As a gift from VO retirees we were given flags of the following countries: Israel, India, England, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Nigeria, South Korea, China, and USA. Thank you to our parents who have also donated the following flags: Poland, Singapore, Japan, Germany, Finland, Ireland, Nepal, Greece, Pakistan, Uruguay, Ecuador, Portugal, Spain, Central African Republic, South Africa, Wales, Iceland, Australia, and Armenia. If you would like to purchase a flag of your country of origin or to represent one of the many nationalities of our school please visit Amazon and search for an ANLEY 3x5 flag: VO Flags
Before purchasing and donating the flag to our school’s collection please contact me or one of our secretaries with the flag information so we can make sure that another family has not already ordered the same flag.
Village Oaks & Orchard Hills Elementary were the first two elementary schools in NCSD to become part of the Play movement and make play a priority with Playworks in the 2017-2018 school year! This year all NCSD elementary schools will partner with Playworks to enhance the learning experiences for students throughout the district. Playworks is the leading nonprofit in Michigan and nationally using play to transform schools. A Playworks recess creates a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. Please click on the link below and read the attached Playworks article to learn more about our partnership and Patrice our Playworks Coach!

- For the safety of our students do not walk your children through our bus loop as students are loading/exiting our busses.
- Stay in your car as you drive through our car loop.
- Please do not drop off children before 8:55am. We do not have any supervision outside prior to this time.
