Fall Tech Challenge Examples- #66
Examples of the SAMR Model
US History to 1877
Write an editorial to a colonial paper as either a loyalist or a patriot detailing opposition or support for the American independence movement.
Substitution
Paper and pencil ---> Google Doc
Augmentation
Google Doc ---> Adding links that enhances the opposition or support, e.g., witness account from reputable sources
Modification
Google Doc ---> Students share with their peers for revising, editing, and collaboration
Redefinition
Students collaborate with their peers and create a website that hosts each student's editorial along with: first-hand witness accounts along with their biography, a video created by the group, a discussion between key figures that include details and references to colonial grievances and rights.
High School Geometry
Substitution
Sketch a hexagonal pyramid ---> Use a program like Sketchpad to create a 3D sketch of the figure.
Augmentation
Students add their own measurements.
Modification
Students collaborate with each other to find volume or surface area of each other's pyramid and determine which design would be the most effective as a paper weight.
Redefinition
Students create their figure using a 3D printing program and test out their paper weight in a real-world scenario.

How Does The Challenge Work?
You can take a picture of your students working on the assignment with a description and share on Twitter or Facebook (make sure we see it), email us the assignment, add us as collaborators within the assignment (gsuite apps), or add us as a co-teacher to your Google Classroom where we can see the assignments.
If you're needing help, please don't hesitate to ask. One entry per level completed will enter you into the drawing.
There will be three drawings and with the first drawing choosing their prize. Your prizes for this year are: Lunch provided by Instructional Technology, a Kensington Presenter Pro Remote, and a set of logitech Z200 Stereo Speakers.

I will strive to assist teachers in appropriately incorporating and implementing technology in their classroom by being available for one-on-one meetings, PLCs, staff meetings, and providing professional development that meets our teacher's technology needs.
