The Scoop on 4th Grade
with Miss Lejsner, Mrs. Napoleoni & Mrs. Smith
November 16, 2018
Dear 4th grade parents,
We would like to take a moment to reflect on the many things for which we are thankful. We are thankful for our students who come to school everyday ready to learn-they give us all a daily reminder of what is important. We are thankful for the support you as parents provide at home as well as here in our classrooms and school. We would like to wish all of you a happy, healthy, and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Curriculum Corner
Reading & Writing
The past few weeks we have been learning poetry elements, imagery, and how to read a poem. Our study of poetry helped us to create a beautiful image to represent a thunderstorm. We also started our biography unit in both shared reading and guided reading. We read about Martin Luther King Jr and segregation by reading My Brother Martin and various poems written by Langston Hughes. The students identified character traits that represent a leader and even shared an example of a leader that they personally know.
In writing the students have been going through the writing process to complete their narratives. We are so proud of all of their hard work!
Math
We have been working hard to master division. The students have been taught multiple ways to solve division problems. They can choose either the place value sections method or the long division method. A lot of the students have discovered how easy it is to solve long division problems if we know our multiplication facts quickly. Keep practicing over the break!
Science/Social Studies
What property does a scratch test show? The students will be completing their final investigation in Rocks and Minerals after break. Although science tests are open-note, please encourage your child to study because they will need to understand the concepts and explain them using a different scenario.
