Principal's Message
We are looking forward to seeing each of you at Parent Teacher Conferences this week. Teachers have a lot of information to share with you, but you are also welcome to bring questions. You are our partners in your student’s education, and the more we are aligned in our efforts, the more progress each of our students will make!
Our character focus for March is initiative. When you meet with teachers this week, listen for ways you might help your student grow their skills! One way to think about initiative is it’s the first step in taking action. Children often need help making connections between what they see and what they can do about it. As adults, we can talk about the ways we are taking initiative. When our children see us taking these steps, they can learn how to take initiative in their own life.
When adults encounter a problem that needs to be solved, we often find it faster and easier to do the job ourselves. I would encourage you to look for opportunities to stop and give your children a chance to put initiative into practice. If they come to you with a problem, help them think through how they could solve the problem and encourage them to follow through with the steps to solve it. How they choose to solve it might not be perfect or might take longer, but they are learning what it means to identify a problem and do something about it. Empower your kids to know the can make a difference!
Kind Regards,
Christy
Lost and Found Reminder
Is your student missing a jacket, sweater, lunch box, water bottle, or other item? Please browse the items on the tables in the Terra Linda lobby while you are here for conferences. On Monday, March 12, we will package all remaining items and donate them to the Beaverton Clothes Closet.
Venezuela Fundraiser
Last year the Terra Linda community did a wonderful job of supporting the Venezuelan people who are suffering from economic devastation and food shortages. The situation in Venezuela has been getting progressively worse, and we have the opportunity to help once again. This time, the organization we are supporting has a more specific focus – helping the thousands of children who are suffering from malnutrition due to the lack of food, money and healthcare. They are asking for just a few items: oatmeal, nutrition bars (think Cliff Bars, Z Bars, Larabars, etc.), and Pedialyte, all of which can be bought in regular grocery stores. Dollar Tree also has a very affordable generic Pedialyte. We will run this drive for two weeks from Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 23. Thanks for your compassion for children and families in Venezuela!

Safe Oregon Tipline
Creating a safe learning environment is a critical part of helping each child achieve academic success. SafeOregon is a statewide school safety tip line that gives kids, parents, schools and their communities a way to report safety threats or potential acts of violence. SafeOregon will give students another path for communicating with school administration when school safety incidents occur.
How does SafeOregon work?
Students, parents, and school staff can access SafeOregon through the web form on the SafeOregon website, or by text, email, live call and mobile app.
Why is there a need for a tip line system?
The number one reason why students do not report is the fear of retaliation from their peers. SafeOregon can be accessed from the privacy of a phone, home computer or other Internet equipped device, eliminating the possibility of being identified by another student and thus, decreasing the likelihood that a school safety threat would go unreported.
For more information, please visit the District’s SafeOregon Tipline webpage.
