Scholastic Art Award Winners 2019!
This year Webster High School art students won 94 Scholastic Art Awards!
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation’s youth, and provided opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12.
Each year, the Alliance partners with nearly 100 visual arts and literary arts organizations across the country to bring the Scholastic Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7–12 apply in 29 categories of art and writing. This year, students across America submitted nearly 350,000 original works of art and writing to the Scholastic Awards.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards provide students with the opportunity to earn Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention Awards for Northeast Art Region-at-Large. The 2019 regional award recipient list was posted on the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards webpage on January 30. Award recipients will receive congratulatory letters and certificates in the mail in March.
Gold Key awards are given to the most outstanding works submitted in each category. Silver Key are stand-out works submitted to local programs that demonstrate exceptional ability. Honorable Mention awards are accomplished works submitted to local programs showing great skill and potential.
Regional Gold Key award winning works advance to the national level for award consideration. Gold Key National Medalist are recognized at a National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City. At the national level, Gold Medal are the most outstanding works in the nation. Silver Medal works demonstrate high honors at the national level.
Gold Medal & Silver Medal Portfolio categories: Seniors with outstanding portfolios are recognized with awards that may include scholarships. Gold Medal Portfolios advance to national judging.
The Awards are presented by The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Since its founding, the Awards have identified the early promise of some of our nation’s most exceptional visionaries. Their alumni include artists like Andy Warhol, Philip Pearlstein, and Cy Twombly, writers Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Ned Vizzini, and Joyce Carol Oates, photographer Richard Avedon, actors Frances Farmer, Robert Redford, Alan Arkin, and John Lithgow, filmmakers Stan Brakhage, Ken Burns, and many more. Outside the arts, Awards alumni employ their creativity to become successful in any number of ways – leaders in fields like journalism, medicine, finance, government and civil affairs, the law, science, toy design, and more.
