It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! We are off to a strong start with a highly qualified and dedicated staff, wonderful students and supportive families to guarantee a successful year full of joy and learning! Our theme this year is better together! We are overjoyed to be able to welcome families back into the building! There will be many opportunities to get involved in our active school community!! If you are new to Welby this year you will hear your students refer to our school as Crew. As a proud EL school we embrace the foundational credo of "We are Crew, Not passengers." It will take our entire school community including students, staff, parents and families to pull together to challenge and support each other to reach our goals. Welby teachers and staff believe every student can meet our high expectations and be proud of what they accomplish this year! It is up to all of us to commit to prioritizing learning this year by being at school everyday on time so our students have the best opportunity to stay on track to reach their dreams!
If we missed you at our back to school event please enjoy the video below and use the QR CODE to let us know what you think about these goals and how you can share your expertise or time to help our community team meet their goals!
Let's stay strong, committed and engaged all year!

Our Goals for the 2022-2023 School Year...
- All students meet their Map reading and math targets.
- Help our most struggling readers to grow towards reading at their grade level.
- Students will report engaging in a learning experience that they found meaningful and relevant to their lives.
- Each student will share at least one piece of work with an audience outside of their classroom and participate in a project that benefits the Welby community.
- Each student will explain how they made their crew and school a better place.
Attendance Matters: It's the law!!
We are back!! It's time to get back on track and attendance is vital to get students caught up! There are new guidelines regarding how sick is too sick to come to school! Please call the office if you have any questions and do not hesitate to reach out to school administration for support with attendance.
In Colorado, CRS 22-33-104 is the statute that defines school truancy. According to Colorado school attendance law, a student age six to sixteen is habitually truant when they reach:
- four (4) unexcused absences from public school in any one month; or
- ten (10) unexcused absences from public school during any academic year (school year)2
