The 2nd edition of Selwyn House’s Senior School Inter-House Math Competition will be taking place on Tuesday March 28. This competition is a wonderful showcase of mathematical prowess, teamwork, and healthy competition. In addition to the Houses competing for house points, all students will be able to contribute to their House’s efforts in a Kahoot during TAG. The winning House and its participants will forever be immortalized on a brand new trophy made especially for this competition. The first spot on the trophy has already been claimed by last year’s winning House, Wanstall. Which House will claim the next spot this year?
The Annual Toboggan Lab! For over 20 years, Mr. Downey's Grade 11 Physics classes have participated in the Annual Toboggan Lab! Last week, this year's grads had their turn. The goal: "to determine the coefficient of friction between their sled and the snow." Due to mild weather and freezing rain days before the lab, conditions were icy and fast! The students measured masses, lengths, times, angles and altitudes so that they might achieve the goal. Using their knowledge of forces, energy, kinematics and trigonometry, the students made calculations to confirm that "when it is icy, friction is very small!"
