Juniors Complete Non-Testing Part of ACT - Feb. 14
All 11th graders MUST complete this part of the ACT at one of these times:
Friday, February 14 at 9 AM
Friday, February 14 at 11 AM
Location: Collins Auditorium 2-178.
It important that all 11th graders attend one of these important NON-TEST SESSIONS for completing the demographic information on the ACT answer document. If you have a college class and cannot attend one of the listed sessions, you will need to contact Mrs. Tugman, Testing Coordinator at sarah.tugman@dpsnc.net as soon as possible to schedule a time.
Remember all 11th graders are required to take the ACT on Tuesday, FEBRUARY 25th so it is imperative that you make one of these sessions.
Juniors Take the ACT - Feb. 25
The Excused Absence Notification Form will need to be completed for ALL college classes taking place on Tuesday, February 25th during the testing time (9:15 am – 1:30 pm - approximate time for the regular administration). According to the form, you have 14 calendar days prior to the 25th to submit to your college instructor!
Proctors Needed for the ACT - Feb. 25 & 26
Proctors Needed – Parents who Proctor are the BEST!
MCHS needs parent proctors to act as “eyes and ears” during our 2020 ACT Testing. We need proctors during the following times:
2 Proctors Tuesday, 2/25 9:00 am – 1:30 pm
1 Proctor Tuesday, 2/25 9:00 am – 3:30 pm
1 Proctor Wednesday, 2/26 9:00 – 3:30 pm
Proctors will need to attend a short training session by Friday, February 21, 2020. Ms. Tugman can accommodate your schedule for the training session. If you can assist during this important ACT testing window, please contact Ms. Tugman at sarah.tugman@dpsnc.net
ACT Testing Exemptions
Students who have taken either the SAT or the ACT before February 25, 2020 and have scores that meet the college readiness benchmark standards, do not have to participate in the statewide ACT administration. However, it is the student's responsibility to notify the school that they do not wish to participate in the ACT. The 2020 ACT Testing Exception Process Parent Letter outlines the steps to take regarding the ACT Exceptions process.

Environmental Science Summer Institute - June 8-12
Free 1-week program for Rising 11th & 12th Graders, June 8-12, 2020, with optional Career Immersion Program, June 15-17, 2020. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Research Triangle Park, NC will host its 10th annual Summer Institute June 8-12, 2020. This FREE 1-week Institute is followed by an optional 3-day Career Immersion Program, June 15-17. The objective of the Environmental Science Summer Institute is to increase students’ knowledge about the EPA and how it protects human health and the environment. Interactive and hands-on experiences, tours of campus facilities, networking with EPA professionals, and career explorations are emphasized. During the Institute, participants will be exposed to the many EPA careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) as well as other fields such as administration, policy, and communications. Participants will hear directly from our scientists and engineers about their cutting-edge research that serves to support EPA’s mission of protecting human health and the environment. Rising 11th and 12th graders are eligible to apply, and participation is limited to 25 students. There is no cost to attend, but participants must provide their own transportation and meals. The Institute is Monday-Friday, June 8-12, 2020, from 9am-4pm with an optional 3-day Career Immersion Program Monday-Wednesday, June 15-17, 9am-4pm. It will be held at the U.S. EPA Campus at 109 TW Alexander Drive in Research Triangle Park, NC. Students must commit to attending the entire 5-day Institute, and visitors must show a valid photo ID daily when entering the EPA campus. Applications accepted on a space-available basis. To ensure that students from multiple schools have the opportunity to participate, three students from any one school will be accepted. Additional applicants from the school will be placed on a waitlist. See attached for a copy of the application and teacher recommendation form. Questions?
