Enjoying the rain at MEA
What is the acceleration going on??
Physics students are in the process of determining the acceleration rate of a steel marble rolling down a ramp due to what Earth’s gravity is doing to it. The ramp angle size is low so it is easier to measure that acceleration compared to making the ramp angle very steep. Galileo did this in the 1600’s. The students used phone stop watches to measure the time. Galileo used the flow amount of water in a container to measure the time. Oh have times changed. Thank you to Galileo and the modern phone inventors.
Look Up
On a recent Tuesday, around 12:30pm, students crowded around the beautiful tree in the elementary playground area to witness something special...
What was it?

Parakeets
Red-Masked Parakeets flocked to our school to enjoy lunch! They were dropping fruit on top of us and our lunches. They're a "nearly-threatened species", wild and naturalized in SoCal by perhaps the pet trade. They made for an exciting lunch surprise and they drew a crowd!
Pictures from "our" parakeet were uploaded to iNaturalist at https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/18384969
iNaturalist is one of the world's most popular nature apps, giving scientists and naturalists a place to record and share their observations of the plants and animals around them.
