Jump Rope for Heart
Dear Dublin Families-
This week students will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart activities during all PE periods.
You are doing such an incredible job helping the American Heart Association save lives! Thank you for doing your part to make a difference, because every dollar counts. With one week left until our event, there is still time to spread the word and raise money. Donations are due on November 18th.
Remember - if you raise just $5, you will earn Jax! AND if you receive a donation online, you will get Charger! But wait, it doesn't stop there, if you raise $40 online you will receive our new plush Disco! All these monsters come to life on your app!
Need help raising donations? Here are some quick and easy ideas to try!
1. Register and get a free glow in the dark wristband - It's new this year and can be brought to life when downloading the app! Challenge 10 or more friends to join you and donate! It’s a great way to spread the message of heart health and give others the opportunity to support you!
2. EMAIL - Login to your HeadQuarters and use the email tool to ask friends and family to support you with a donation. And we've made it easy for you by providing a pre-written fundraising letter! (Can your parents send an email to their co-workers for a donation?)
3. DOWNLOAD THE MOBILE APP and bring your monsters to life and fundraise on the go - Ask your parents to download the (free) Jump/Hoops app for iPhone or Android. Ask your Mom and Dad to share your fundraising page on Facebook, Twitter or by text!
Thank you and keep up the great work!

PTA Reflections Workshop Session
The PTA is hosting an after school work session for the kids to work on their PTA Reflections projects. It will be held Tuesday November 14th in the Art Room from 4:00-5:00. Kids will need to be picked up promptly at 5:00.
This will be a time the students can bring up their projects and work on any finishing touches, or use the time for inspiration to create something new! If your student finishes their project and would like to submit it at that time, we will be able to store them safely in the office.

Please have your children bring what they have been working on, along with any supplies they plan on using. We will have some basic supplies available but students should plan to bring what they plan to use for their work.
As a reminder -the projects need to be turned in to the office no later than 4:00 on Friday November 17th!

Third Grade Reading Law
Being a good reader is critical for children to be successful in school. In 2017, the Michigan Legislature implemented the Third Grade Reading Law to ensure that students exit third-grade reading at or above grade level, which will impact the current 2017-2018 first-grade students by the time they are in third-grade.
In accordance with this law, and as a means of better informing classroom instruction, districts will be providing K-3 reading assessments to students across the state. These assessments will identify students who need intensive reading instruction and intervention, and will also provide useful information to help teachers tailor instruction to meet individual student needs.
- The law also requires districts to provide early and regular written communication with parents of K-3 students with reading difficulties. Communication will include information about current services being provided, additional reading supports planned for your child, and a read-at-home plan for you to help your child at home.
- I-Ready Reading Assessment that Walled Lake has been utilizing the past three years.
- K-3 literacy instruction in Walled Lake, includes this the Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy booklet.

Invisible Dad
Through the generosity of parent donations and the planning of a few dedicated people, we are thrilled to provide the Invisible Dad lunch program at Dublin Elementary.
Every day, in our own community and in our school, children are faced with a growing form of hunger: food insecurity. Not knowing where their next meal will come from, these children are not only faced with being hungry, studies have also shown these children can face more severe issues in the future. The Invisible Dad program hopes to change that by providing the funds necessary to make sure all children have access to a full meal at lunch.
These funds are not something you or your child have to ask for or apply to receive. These funds are available without question or judgment as children go through the line at lunch. Parents will be notified privately and confidentially if their child’s lunch is paid for by the Invisible Dad. Sometimes the situation is simple and the lunch account just needs to be refilled. We ask that you refill your account and perhaps consider donating back to the program. Sometimes the situation is more complex, the money just isn’t there and won’t be there for some time. In those cases, you and your child will not have to worry again about lunch. The Invisible Dad program will step in and make sure lunch is provided.
Donations can be made by sending cash or a check to school made out to “Walled Lake Food Services” with “Invisible Dad - DUBLIN” in the memo. This is not a tax-deductible donation, this is just money from you to a child in need.
Walled Lake Schools offers free and reduced-cost lunches; the Invisible Dad program aims to solve for the short-term and one-off situations. If you would like to apply for free or reduced-cost lunch, please contact Mr. Drewno.
For more information about this program, visit www.invisibledad.org. Please contact Mr. Drewno, or Julie Rader-Food Services Coordinator (julierader@wlcsd.org) with questions.
