Glen Acres Elementary School
Principal Letter
September 1, 2019
Dear Families,
Thank you for coming to Open House Nights. If you were unable to attend, feel free to reach out to your teacher for important School Opening information.
Our students were amazing this week! They followed the new routines well, had fun, and shared many great summer happenings with me. Students told me about their vacations, their summer reading, their loose teeth, their thoughts about school and their thoughts about many other topics.
One first grade student made me chuckle when he said, "I have a secret to share with you." Then, he whispered in my ear, "I am Spiderman." I acknowledged his secret with a smile and off he went traversing the playground making his pretend webs to get him to and from places.
It's fun being the principal!

Our Kindergarten Students Liked Their Play Based Learning Time!
Many hands make light work! Kindergarten students collaborated to build the alphabet and to make some meals.
Here’s what we have next week:
Monday, 9/2- Schools Closed
Tuesday, 9/3- Day 1, Grade 5 Honors Chorus Auditions @ 8 AM
Wednesday, 9/4- Day 2
Thursday, 9/5- Day 3
Friday, 9/6- Day 4, PBIS Assembly for students. Students will learn about class and school expectations (Respect, Responsibility and Kindness) and they will earn about Eagle Egg Dollars.
- If your child is sick or you are going to be late, please call 484-266-1710.
- Please send in a signed note within 3 days of your child's absence.
- Please send your child in to school with foot wear appropriate for our playground and PE class. Sneakers are recommended. There is climbing equipment, mulch, black top and grass areas on our playground.
- I have seen several students with long necklaces and jewelry. My concern is when they are climbing in the play area. It is best to refrain from sending your children in with jewelry that can make play difficult.
- Our attendance secretary's email is tweaver2@wcasd.net. If you do not put the 2 in the email address, she will not receive it.
- If you pick up your child at the pick-up circle, it is helpful to us if you have your Last name displayed in the window.
Thank you for the help!
- Thank you to the PTO for painting obstacle courses and games on our playground! The students loved the new additions!
- Thank you to the PTO for providing more and updated board games for indoor recess.
- Thank you to troops 4224 and 4111 for all their hard work this summer! The girls took great care of our garden and harvested several pounds of food to donate to the West Chester Food Bank.
What is the Strengthening Families Program?

The National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the U.S. Department of Education, and the National 4-H Council have recognized the Strengthening Families Program 10-14 for its positive effects on youth. In the brochures listed below, please find information about the program. In addition, at Fugett Middle School, starting on 10/14, there is a free 7 week evening program for families with youth from ages 10-14.
