A Note From Principal Hilliard
Hello Wolfpack Family!!
The first two days of school we had 100% attendance. I cannot tell you how happy this made the staff at CHSM. We see the efforts of SO MANY of our students who we know getting to school each day is not easy...but they are here anyway! We are SO proud. You are being TOUGH! Each day our awesome staff comes here with the mindset of "teaching like a champion" this only happens if the students are here every day to "learn like a champion". Michelle will be contacting parents of students who will start on attendance contracts. Students can find out their non-productive time anytime to see where they are. If they are getting close to 1395 it would be smart to come into school early - doors open at 7 - or they can come when we have Build Your Bank on Fridays. (Not this Friday)
With September comes parent/teacher conferences! We love this time of year. CHSM prides itself on having 100% attendance from both parents and students. Our conferences are student led, so it is important that you sign up for a time that works for both of you. In this 20 minute time slot, students will go over their Personal Education Plans (PEPs) as well as their projected graduation date. Parents will have the opportunity to sign up to help with the Halloween Party. Please plan on spending between 45 minutes to an hour at CHSM (this includes the 20 minute conference). We want you to have time to take a short survey, pay fees, purchase t-shirts, buy punch cards to our school store (if you desire). We will have snacks for you to enjoy as well. Conferences are Thursday, September 22nd. There will be time slots available from 8am-1pm and 4pm-8pm. Please sign up by clicking https://signup.com/go/FgkNaNP by September 19th. (Be sure to uncheck the ads at the bottom so you don't receive a lot of unwanted emails.) If for some reason you can't get the link to work, please email Michelle- mhilliard@usd266.com
If none of these times work for you, please contact Michelle so we can get something set up before Monday the 26th so we can maintain our 100% attendance rate. :)
Last night some of our parents met for our VERY FIRST PTO meeting (otherwise known as the Howl at the Moon Crew). We have amazing parents at CHSM. They are full of ideas for the Halloween party and are excited about several other opportunities to help CHSM students and staff...we are SO lucky! There will be a sign up at conferences if you are interested in joining.
Our first site council meeting for the year will be Tuesday, September 13 at 5:45pm at the Pizza Hut on North Maize Road. (3960 N. Maize Rd.) We will also have a sign up at conferences. You don't have to wait until conferences, if you want to join, please come to the meeting on the 13th!
Noteables:
Contracts are due, Tuesday, September 13 - one contract should be completed for each block class. If students are behind or just want to get ahead, they always have the opportunity to attend Build Your Bank on Fridays from 8am-12pm. (We do not have BYB Friday, 9/2 or 9/23.)
Lunch Balances - Once a student's lunch balance goes negative, the lunch workers will not be able to serve them. If you need help with filling your child's lunch account, please let Michelle know. A reminder that the free/reduced form is on Skyward...Michelle can check in to see if that is processed if you need help.
Field Trip!! - Monday, September 12th - we are looking forward to attending "Kansas' Largest Classroom" - the Kansas State Fair!! It is Dillons Dollar Day. Students either need to bring a Dillons card or $1.00 for admission. Also, students will want to bring a sack lunch or money for lunch.
PICTURE DAY! Thursday, September 15!
Maize Fall Festival Parade!! Saturday, October 1st - We will be defending our title. You won't want to miss our float in the parade. We will need students to walk with the float and parents to cheer us on!
COUNT DAY!!! Monday, September 20! PLEASE make every effort to be at school on this day, on time, all day! If you have an appointment scheduled, please try to reschedule if at all possible. This is the day that all schools in Kansas use to "count students" for funding.
CHSM fundraiser! CHSM does a huge fundraiser at the beginning of the year where we ask EVERYONE to participate. Sheryl will be getting details to everyone soon. CHSM does so many incredible activities, the fundraising really helps us to do all the "extras". Thank you for helping; we appreciate you!!!
Please remember to bring your school supplies for this year. We ask everyone to bring 2 packages of white copy paper, 1 box of kleenex, 1 snack item.
I have heard so many parents who have encouraged their students to be at school....even on the "hard" days. We appreciate you. It truly takes a village and we are so thankful that you allow us to be a part of your child's life. Thank you for trusting us and for being a part of our Wolfpack Family!!
Please call or email me if you have any questions or need help with anything.
Thanks,
Michelle
