5th Grade Happenings
March 1, 2018
March is Reading Month
I handed out reading calendars to the class. Each student will set two goals (minutes read) for the month, a three-day goal and a four-day goal. The four-day goal will have more minutes since there are more days. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays will be used for the three day goal. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays will be used for the four-day goal. I will check calendars on Thursdays for the three-day goal and on Mondays for the four-day goal. Students will be graded on whether or not they reach their goals. I will talk with each student about his or her goals. The goals need to be challenging, but attainable.
Get Wild About Reading Night
Next Thursday (3-7) St. Paul will be hosting a family reading night. Activities include a read-aloud, a book walk, coloring a bookmark, and the book fair. It will be a fun-filled evening, and I strongly encourage my students to come and participate. I am considering offering extra credit to those who attend.
Time: 6:30-7:30
Guest Readers
If you are interested in coming to our classroom and being a guest reader during the month of March, let me know. What kind of book should you bring? A children's story book would be just fine. The following are days and times that will NOT work. Monday through Friday: 10:30-11:15. Monday through Friday: 1:00-1:50. Mondays and Wednesdays: 2:00-2:45. Please send me an email if you are interested.
Lansing Catholic: 5th Grade Activites Day
The 5th graders had a great time at Activities Day. They played Faith Feud, made slime, had a basketball shoot-out, and played Cougar Trivia. The class was able to take their slime with them and they each brought home a Lansing Catholic Water bottle. Thank you to our drivers, Mrs. Shannon Davis and Mr. Renfrow.
