Book Fair Volunteers needed for Friday, Nov. 17
We are getting excited about our upcoming Scholastic book fair. One of our busiest times of the fair is Friday. We are in still in need of volunteers to help during the times on Friday. . Scholastic Wild West Book Fair
The Book Fair begins Monday, November 13 and runs through 1:15 on Friday, November 17. Students may shop before or after school or we will be open during lunchtime for "Lunch with a Loved One". Below are lunch times if you are planning on coming to shop with your child during lunch. Thank you for supporting the book fair!

The Paradox of Grit
We found the article (below) to be a great reminder about grit. It's not just important to teach children to persevere, to challenge themselves. The article suggests the need "to be more human and genuine instead of hiding behind the mask of toughness or professionalism." It's an important balance.

LEAD With GCISD
The district has recently begun encouraging it's staff members to unite on the first Tuesday of each month by wearing their staff shirts and using the Twitter hashtag #wearegcisd. We invite you to check out the unity in our district by checking out what people are tweeting:
What we are learning next week...
Math- I can use a variety of models, including discrete objects and length-based models (e.g., cubes connected to form lengths) to solve problems with operations.
Reading- I can retell the main events and ideas of a story in order.
Writing- I can use words to signal a move from one idea to another using "Treasure in my Hand".
Social Studies- I can give examples of choices families make when buying goods and services.
Science- I can explain interdependency and that animals need food to survive, which can include plants or other animals.
