The Scholastic Book Fair will be at MT for 3 more days!
Students who wish to make one final visit will be able to shop at the fair on Tuesday during ELA classes.
Two upcoming titles are available for pre-order: Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Diper Overlode ($9.99 paperback) and Alan Gratz’s new book Two Degrees ($12.99 hardback).
Parents can stop by the fair during conferences Wednesday to select titles for their children and classroom libraries. Students and teachers made “wish lists” for the fair, making it easier than ever to purchase books that kids want to read!

A Few Words from the Principal - Update School Safety Concern
MTMS Parents & Guardians –
I am writing to provide you an update regarding the investigation into comments and rumors tied to school safety at Monticello Trails.
Detectives with the Shawnee Police Department determined on September 16 the student did make comments regarding school safety. Although police believe the comments are not credible, they were serious and the police investigation continues.
Separate from the police investigation is the school process regarding the behavior. This process remains ongoing and the school will take appropriate action as necessary.
Although the matter is being dealt with by police, we recognize the disruption comments like these can have on the school community. We will continue to take steps to help keep our school safe. This recent issue is an example of our community working together to promote school safety. I want to emphasize again, “If you see or hear something, say something.” Our partnership with local law enforcement is strong and reporting safety concerns will allow them to engage and fully investigate.

From Student Council
Student council is raising funds later this month to benefit the American Red Cross and its disaster relief programs. During lunch on Tuesday, September 27, students may purchase duct tape for $1 a foot and stick it to Mr. LeBar, our vice principal. The goal is to tape him head to toe to a pole in the cafeteria and leave him stuck. You can participate by bringing in your dollars. Let's have some fun while raising money for a great cause!
