Message From Mr. Holcombe
We have many exciting things happening this week!
Tomorrow we will have our second visit from Kate McGown from the Oregon Branch Library. Her first visit saw over 40 students stay in from recess to listen to book talks and nearly all the books she brought were checked out. Tomorrow she has a robot in store for students who would like to stay in and participate.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights we will have 5th grade band fittings in the band room for those interested. We will begin Band for 5th graders second quarter.
On Thursday we will have Toma the Mime at Ike! He will put on a performance in the morning and work with students throughout the day on writing. We are thankful to EPSSO for supporting this assembly financially.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Tim Holcombe
Parent/Teacher Conferences on November 7
Communication on a regular basis is essential. One method we use to communicate is Parent/Teacher Conferences. The way we will handle Parent/Teacher Conferences this year will be different than the way they were done in elementary and are transitional in nature.
We will have conferences November 7th from 7:10—2:35 and 4:00—7:00. We will also have a second evening conference on November 9th from 5:00—8:00. Invitations will be going out October 12th and 13th to the parents of all students whose teachers would like the opportunity to discuss success plans. Conferences will be open for everyone on October 26th.
Conferences will be scheduled for 15 minutes. You will have the opportunity to meet with all of your child’s teachers at once if that is desirable. We will ask that all conferences stick to the scheduled time. We want to be available to you so if you do not schedule a conference time, are not able to get one, or do not have enough time during your conference, please let us know and we will work to find a time to meet with you. Again, communication is extremely important to us.
More information will be forthcoming!

Thank you!
5th Grade Band Announcement from Mr. Kuzdzal
We will hold an important informational meeting Oct. 3 and 4 at 6:00 in the band room at Eisenhower. If your student has an interest in being in band this year, please plan on attending this meeting to learn more about our program and how you can go about renting an instrument for your student. We are currently in the process of fitting interested students for instruments and will continue to work through these fittings. Please know that not all fittings may be complete prior to the meeting and any student who is interested in band should plan on attending this meeting, even if he/she has not received a letter about his/her fitting. We look forward to seeing you there!
Cell Phone / Electronic Devices Policy
In the weekly Fly-er, we like to often spotlight certain building policies. As technology changes, it is important that we hold true to our policies.
Smart watches are becoming more affordable and, thus, more popular. Smart watches with communication features are governed by our Electronic Devices Policy. As such, they must remain in the student’s locker throughout the school day. Thank you very much for your support of our policies! Below is a portion of the Electronic Devices Policy that is found on page 7 of our Student/Parent Handbook that is located in the front of your student’s agenda and can be found on the Eisenhower website:
Cellular phones and other electronic devices (including, but not limited to: iPods and hand-held video games, etc.) can be disruptive to the educational process in many ways including, but not limited to: communicating during instruction via texting or calling, cheating, eliciting panic, making plans in conflict with established school rules, taking or disseminating or sharing obscene or inappropriate images, recording other students, etc.
For these reasons cell phones and other electronic devices MUST NOT be in the possession of students during the school day. When the 7:40 bell rings, all electronic devices must already be placed in the off position and put in the student’s locker for the entire school day through the dismissal bell. If a student has possession of an electronic device during the school day, he/she will be responsible to the consequences listed in the handbook. If the device is used inappropriately prior to the bell or after the ending bell, the student will be subject to, but not limited to, the consequences listed in the handbook.
Standards-Based Grading Links
We will continue to pass along information about SBG. Below are two pages explaining how to access grades in Power School. Please continue to direct questions to Mrs. Nadolny or Mr. Holcombe. Thank you!

Other News
We are thankful to the Toledo Lucas County Health Department for giving our 6th grade families access to their Dental Sealant Program. We had 92 families return the permission slip for the program. Out of those 92 students, 47 were found in need of sealants.
We saw 162 teeth sealed. We estimate that if private dentist fees would have been applied, the work done here at Eisenhower would have totaled $8,424. We are thankful that our students were served and are thankful for the excellent service.
