Need to know
Parent Student Teacher Interviews: Grades 1 to 6 Parent Student Teacher Interviews by request of the teacher will take place on Thursday, October 7 from 4 to 8 pm in person at SHS. Parents will receive a form in the Thursday, September 30th mailbag detailing the process to self-select appointments on our on-line interview system. A reminder that our protocol is to wear a mask at all times, social distance, and be double vaccinated. Please remain seated while waiting for your appointment time.
Attendance Protocols during Covid: We would like to thank all parents for their cooperation and communication while we ride out this pandemic. We kindly ask that when your son is absent that your email to Ms. Manal includes specific symptoms and if testing will take place, to send the results when you receive them. Thank you for your understanding.
A PSA (public service announcement) from a medical member of the SHS community: With the opening of schools the hospitals are seeing an abundance of sick children. The health system was recently reorganized to try and take the pressure off our pediatric emergency rooms who are all OVER capacity. Many parents are struggling with how to navigate the health system to get their child tested and back to school. Here is a brief overview.
School Photos: Individual will be taken on Wednesday, September 29. Due to Covid-19, class photos will not be taken this year. Please ensure your son is well groomed. Either SHS dress uniform, SHS summer uniform or SHS phys. ed. uniform is acceptable.
Attestation day - Thursday, September 30: Please be reminded that Thursday, September 30 is the official MEES (Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport) attendance verification day. On this day the school is required to report to the ministry the actual student attendance and subsequently register each student for the 2021-2022 academic year. Please avoid scheduling appointments on this day. Your child’s/children’s attendance will alleviate significant paperwork for families and the school. Thank you for your support! For questions, email Ms. Kelli Poulin (poulink@selwyn.ca).
After-School Program News: The After-School Program will be offering clubs this term! Clubs will begin as of Friday October 8th, 2021. We will be respecting grade bubbles thus, each day of the week will be limited to a specific grade cycle. Additionally, we are limiting the number of participants per club for the safety of everyone. Therefore, registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. The ASP will offer: Bricks 4 Kidz, Outdoor Education, Comedy Club, Debate Club, Chess, Martial Arts, Soccer, Robotics, Magic, Mad Science, and Everblast. In order to register your son(s) for the After-School Program Clubs, please submit the registration form via email to asp@selwyn.ca by Wednesday October 6th. The registration form can be found at www.selwyn.ca/asp
Terry Fox Run Fundraising Information: All Selwyn House students will be participating in the annual Terry Fox Run on Friday, October 8. Students should attend school in their house t-shirts and Selwyn House athletics wear and should be prepared to run outside regardless of the weather. Please read the following Parent Information Letter for specific details about fundraising, event timing, and expectations.
Truth & Reconciliation Week ~ September 27 - October 1
During the week of September 27 to October 1 the school will be engaging in learning opportunities and activities based on the themes developed by the National Centre for Truth & Reconciliation. Students and teachers will discuss the term reconciliation and will honour the lives lost from Canada’s residential school system on September 30 by wearing orange shirts.
Students may wear ANY orange shirt on September 30 with their uniform pants and proper dress shoes.
The t-shirt that our Indigenous Student Committee designed this year has SOLD OUT! Thank you! All proceeds will go towards family support programs at Step by Step in Kahnawake. If you have any questions, please contact Courtney Prieur, Director of Experiential Education at prieurc@selwyn.ca

If testing is required, please keep him and any SHS Elementary School siblings home until a negative result is received. Contact Ms. Manal with the results and to keep us informed.
If testing is not required, please keep him home until symptoms cease. Contact Ms. Manal with the results and to keep us informed. Contact Ms. Manal to keep us informed.
If a student needs to be tested because he has symptoms, book an appt for COVID-19 screening.
