More Opportunities for Public Input on Strategic Plan!
CCSD wishes to thank everyone — families, students, staff, and community members — who participated this past week in one of our four public listening sessions on the district’s new five-year Strategic Plan, which is under development. It was great to hear so many thoughtful perspectives from across the district, and we appreciate all of those who shared their aspirations for CCSD!
If you weren’t able to attend one of the sessions, there is still an opportunity to share your input! The Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI), which is facilitating the development of a new plan for CCSD, has collaborated with the district to put together two separate surveys — one specifically for students and the other for families, staff, and community members — in order for everyone to share their thoughts.
Click here to access the student survey and here to access the family, staff, and community member survey, or scan the QR codes below. The surveys will remain open through Friday, May 5.
And, as a reminder, you can keep up with the latest updates on the Strategic Plan process here.
CCSD Considers Modified School Schedules for 2023-24 in Response to Transportation Issues, Invites Feedback from Community
CCSD has launched a study committee, comprised of school leaders and district-level staff, to consider the modification of school start and end times for the 2023-24 academic year.
The committee was formed in response to data that revealed the district is unable to provide high-level transportation service to all of our students under the current schedule due to challenges posed by the current two-tier busing schedule.
The committee has considered several alternate schedules, with initial feedback heavily favoring two proposals that would allow high school students to maximize their instructional time with earlier start and end times than they currently observe. The earlier dismissal times in each of these options would also reduce the amount of time missed due to travel for extracurricular activities that currently require students to leave school early and miss instruction.
The two proposals still under consideration are shown in the table below, along with the current schedule. Please note that the times on these proposals are not set and are subject to change.
Click here to read more, and email your feedback to feedback@clarke.k12.ga.us. The district is accepting feedback on these options through Sunday, April 30, so that a final decision can be made in time for implementation at the start of the 2023-24 school year.
Don't Forget! Family Fun Day is Saturday!
CCSD invites families to the Spring 2023 Family Fun Day, from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Bishop Park, 705 Sunset Dr., Athens.
The event is perfect for families and children of all ages. Enjoy a variety of activities, including face painting and balloon animals, as well as food and music. This is a great opportunity to connect with other families in the community and engage with local organizations offering information and resources.
See you there!

Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, and CCSD, Georgia Possible is a multi-year leadership and college readiness program with a mission to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to successfully transition into the postsecondary institution of their choice.
High School Immunization Reminder
This is a reminder that if your student, in grades 9-12, is not up to date with their immunizations, they could be at risk of withdrawal from CCSD. This includes any student who is at least 16 years old and missing their meningitis immunization. Please note that all students need one additional vaccine after they turn 16 years old.
Your student may not be able to attend classes if all immunizations are not brought up to date by Monday, May 8.
If your student is currently not up-to-date with all required immunizations, please have them updated and provide proof of updated immunizations to your school nurse. Click here for a list of required vaccinations.
Please contact your primary care provider, the Clarke County Health Department at 706-389-6921, or the Hilsman Health Center at 706-546-7463 to make an appointment for your student's needed immunizations.
